2010 Sakharov prize winner Guillermo Fariñas was released this Friday in Santa Clara after spending more than ten hours in a police holding cell of the Police Unit known as UPOP on the outskirts of the city.

The licensed psychologist and independent journalist said that on this occasion his arrest occurred when together with dissident Jorge Luis Artiles Montiel, they arrived at the train terminal to escort former political prisoner Felix Navarro who was traveling to Matanzas. Without attempting a public event or an act of civil disobedience, they were assaulted by a watchman at the train terminal, who received backup from other police officials.

  1. Notice how the other police officials in their backup make sure that when they grab the women, they grab at the most vulnerable spots on the body to be sure the indignity is pronounced.
