According to Cubadebate, in Villa Marista’s “Sala de la Gloria Combativa del Departamento de Seguridad del Estado” (Hall of GLory to Cuba’s Security Services) sits a Rolex pulsar watch personally dedicated by U.S. Sec. of State (of the time) Henry Kissinger to “Agent Zafiro.”
The U.S. Sec. of State, you see, was thanking “Agent Zafiro” for his ten years of loyal and invaluable services to the U.S. intelligence community. In fact “Agent Zafiro” was the recently deceased hot-shot DI agent Nicolas Sirgado, who spent ten-years as a Cuban double agent “swindling and laughing at the CIA” according to Castro’s Cubadebate.
Kissinger, btw, was a “Yoanista before Yoanismo was cool.” He was always a powerful proponent for dismantling the Cuba “embargo.” The invaluable intelligence “expertise” from “Agent Zafiro” must have influenced Kissinger’s anti-embargo sentiments–(as the invaluable intelligence “expertise” from Ana Belen Montes influences it in other quarters today.)
In 1975 it was Kissinger’s impetus that legalized commerce by subsidiaries of U.S. corporations with Cuba. Kissinger’s “expertise” also led to the U.S. “hijacking agreement” with Cuba– at a time this Stalinist regime was providing bases, funding and training for virtually every terrorist group on the face of the earth….
BTW, according to the Cubadebate piece, in the early years Nicolas Sirgado, while known as “Zafiro” to U.S. intelligence–was known as “NOEL” to his Cuban KGB-trained intelligence comrades. Might this have been the ultimate tweak at the U.S.? To wit:
“Don’t worry. We’ve infiltrated Castro’s guerrilla group in the Sierra Mountains. The Castro brothers and Ernesto “Che” Guevara have no affiliations with any Communists whatsoever.” (crackerjack Havana CIA station chief Jim Noel 1958.)
VAMOS BIEN (CIA) !!!
