Humberto Fontova at Cuba Nostalgia 2013

Our good friend and fellow Babalú intransigent is with us today selling advanced copies of his new book, “The Longest Romance: The Mainstream Media and Fidel Castro.”

The Longest Romance

From the book’s cover:

Fidel Castro jailed political prisoners at a higher rate than Stalin during the Great Terror. He murdered more Cubans in his first three years in power than Hitler murdered Germans during his first six. Alone among world leaders, Castro came to within inches of igniting a global nuclear holocaust.

But you would never guess any of that from reading the mainstream American media….

Watch for the publish date here.

    • Luis, I informed him of said gift.

BTW, I can officially state that I was the very first person in the world to buy Humberto’s new book. Looking forward to reading it.

  1. This is all very nice, but I was hoping for another bleeding episode (with video of the EMT’s coming to the rescue and so forth). You know, in honor of the 15th anniversary and everything.

  2. I thought the man in the second picture was Jack Nicholson, but then I saw the shirt. It was then that I realized it was still our man Fontova, a much wittier joker by the way.

  3. Alberto, are you sure you’re not Lebanese? We should have your DNA analyzed. That way, if we can prove you’re not really Cuban, you could apply for official Cuba expert status, and Babalú would then be legit.

  4. Humberto, you or your publisher should set up a talk and book-signing gig at Books & Books in Miami (Coral Gables). It’s the best bookstore in the city and they do that all the time with all kinds of new books, including fairly big names. I expect they’d bite on it because of the obvious audience for your book in South Florida, and there’s the added bonus that the local media could also get in on the act. Marco Rubio did it with his bio, for instance. Sounds like a win-win scenario for both you and the bookstore.

  5. Thanks Asombra. Indeed Books and Books have been very good to me. I’ve done four Books and Books gigs thus far. Two for Fidel HFT (May 2005) and two for Che (2007-08).Hopefully my publishers will set up something with them for this book.(dat’s four times I got to fly to Miami on my publishers’s dime!)
