Charlie Crist Callously Changes Course on Cuba While the Cuban People Suffer Increased Repression, Says Ros-Lehtinen

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, made the following statement regarding former Florida Governor Charlie Crist’s recent comments regarding the Cuban embargo:

“In another unsurprising example of his flip-flopping positions, Charlie has switched gears and now says he opposes the Cuban embargo. It’s a shame that a former Governor of Florida, whose state is comprised of many freedom loving individuals, wishes to promote policies that only benefit the Castro tyranny and not the people of Cuba suffering under the dictatorship. I wouldn’t be surprised if he likely bent to pressure from pro-engagement donors who want nothing more than to make a buck off the suffering Cuban people. In the passage of just a few months, Crist has been a Republican, Independent, and Democrat; too bad the only thing he has not been is honest with the Florida voters.”

Crist’s Comments are Repulsive and Only Serve Interests of Castro Brothers

WASHINGTON — Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) released the following statement:

“Charlie Crist’s recent comments about the Cuban-American community and U.S. policy are shameful. To suggest that current law, which is a measure of solidarity, is to blame for the prolonged Castro tyranny is repulsive and only serves the interests of the Castro brothers. While countless brave men and women in Cuba are being beaten and arrested for peacefully demanding freedom and democracy, Crist further insults the victims of that oppressive regime by wanting Florida business to provide it resources so that it continues its violent repression.”
