Cubans who refused to mourn for Fidel are being punished

Who could forget those images of thousands of Cuban “mourners” who took part in Nosferatu’s funeral cermonies, or all those who wept and expressed deep sorrow at his passing?

Many news outlets around the world accepted those images at face value, as genuine expressions of adulation for the dead monster.

Well….ummmm….  those same journalists will most probably avoid reporting what REALLY happened…. for the truth is now finally coming out…

Reports are now surfacing of Cubans penalized for not taking part in Fidel Castro’s funeral ceremonies.

The penalties include “acts of repudiation,” beatings, fines, arrests, sham trials, and imprisonment.

These Cubans are being charged with the crime of “defaming national martyrs” (“difamar de los mártires de la Patria”).

Some of the fines have been as much as 1,000 to 1,500 pesos.

One such Cuban is Darío Pérez Rodríguez from Holguín, an employee of the National Bus Transportation ministry, who refused to view Fidel’s funeral on television at his workplace.

Déxter Pérez, Dario’s brother, told Radio Martí that Dario was arrested on the morning of Friday 2 December after he chose not to obey an order to watch Fidel’s funeral along with other employees. “When he was told to view the funeral on television, he said ‘no’ because it nauseated him (le daba hasta asco). He was immediately reproted to the local secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, and soon arrested by police..

Déxter, a member of the dissident organization Unión patriótica de Cuba (UNPACU), reports that his brother is being detained at the 3rd Unit of the National Revolutionary Police in the city of Holguín and that he has been charged with “defaming national martyrs,” a crime that merits three to twelve months in prison and a fine of 100 to 300 “cuotas.”

Reports have also surfaced of Cubans being fined as much as 1,500 pesos for playing music during the nine days of mourning imposed on the entire nation, and of numerous others subjected to acts of repudiation, including some whose homes were pelted with garbage and human excrement simply because they failed to mourn appropriately.

  1. Forced mourning, of course, is worthless, and it’s not only an unwitting admission of failure but a sign of complete lack of class and extremely bad taste. Still, it’s perfectly in keeping with the character of the deceased, so I suppose it could be seen as somehow “honoring” him. The cheap vulgarity of these Castro creatures is an integral part of their nature, but I really didn’t expect them to stoop to North Korean tactics, which I thought would be just too alien and outré. Evidently, I gave them too much credit.
