We Cubans are Everywhere

It's true, we are all over the place. Just last night we were watching a Law & Order and there was a Cuban. Any mention on any JFK conspiracy has us Cubans sprinkled throughout. We are in movies, books, TV shows...everywhere.

Here in blogdom, I was under the impression that I was basically the only Cubano, but, I was wrong. And I am glad, for I found a fellow also from the Island here in this realm of the internet. His blogs name is Mire and while I dont know much about him, I will be hanging over at his place as often as possible.

we bolivians are also all over the place. every time you hear a comment in a movie about poverty, corruption, or whatnot, bolivia's mentioned. also, we killed che.

Heh. I dont think getting rid of Che is a bad thing. Some where I come from would call that an honor.

figured you would. ;-)

however, i do respect che. i didn't agree w/ his politics, but i respected that he was consistent w/ his convictions (also that he was one of the last leftists who WASN'T a radical nationalist).

however, i find it ironic that people now use che is weird ways. anti-war protests march w/ banner of che (who once said "if you want social change, you can't be afraid of a little violence" and other non-pacifist slogans). anti-globalization folks march w/ banners of che. ironic because: a) che was a globalist (as was the left originally) and b) the image of che is now a trademark not unlike macdonald's or nike or coke (think "che, the choice of the new revolutionary").

also, i don't like the new generation of winy protesters who keep wanting their right to protest (sometimes violently) w/o any repurcussions. at least che was honest about what he did. he fought the state. and sometimes the state fought back. but he never thought the state didn't have the right to fight back.

anyhow, a few scattered thoughts on che. btw, have you read "chasing che" by patrick symmes? it's quite well written and a good critical look/deconstruction of the che mythology. you'd like it.

Come on Val. Confess. You wear a fedora and a pinstripe suit at all times, and carry a switchblade in your shoe. We all know it's true!
