BlogCuba - Howard Morseburg

Howard sent me this poster last week when we cybermet and I found it perfect for the start of BlogCuba Day. It was the first anti-Castro poster published back in the sixties and it is excellent.

The story behind the poster: I originally designed it in the early 1960's, and it was drawn by a Walt Disney artist/animator, Roland Crump, and published about the mid-60s. It is 36 x 24 inches in size.

It sold through the college book stores from San Diego to Seattle. After the Berkeley riots and the formation of the Free Speech Committee, a delegation was sent to the Berkeley Book Store and the demand made to remove my sort of right-leaning posters. The store complied. They replaced them with posters of Che Gueverra, Ho Chi Minh, Cho en Lai, etc. Need I say more? Liberals believe in the strict, very strick control of all speech, which is quite interesting. So does Marxism.

While showing it in a S.F. bookstore, I got in a shouting match with the owner; he turned out to be the president of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee. It came close to violence, so I left.

The Cuban national anthem bit, "Paredon, mi Amigo, paredon." To the wall, my friend, to the wall. A bit of irony. Kangaroo Courts, convictios of Batista men or just guys Castro disliked, and the was immediate execution, demanded by the crowds, then the firing squad. So much for Marxist justice, eh?

As the Liberals gained control of the colleges and universities, my posters were slowly pushed into the dustbin of history.

Wow! What an interesting story :) Well, it seems that we have a counter revolution going on, thanks to blogs and radio, in part, and to lots of healthy forces in society all over the world. I have the impression that in this new century the left is the one going to tbhe dustbin of history. God bless you all.
