Communism for Dummies
Step one: Centralize government.
Step two: Take control of the courts.
Step three (and probably most important): Take control of the media.
Looks like it's check, check and check now in Venezuela.
As Scott put it over at Burton Terrace: So much for participatory democracy.
Looks like Castro's plan of exporting the communist revolution has succeeded. This time in a country with rich oil reserves. The Venezuelan people are screwed.

I will have to disagree with you hermano. The situation in Venezuela has actually strengthened democracy. Chavez survived 2 elections, a failed coup attempt, several national strikes and now a referendum. In both elections and the referendum he has won with a huge majority of the vote. That kind of stuff doesn't even happen in the US. Heck, Bush didn't even get the most popular votes. Just because the people voted for someone who is leftist doesn't mean it was undemocratic. The people have spoken.

Still in college are you Don Chu? You are being naive at best if you believe the recall was not tainted and fair. We'll see which way history proves.

Meh, Mr. Chu probably thinks that 100% of the Iraqi people really voted for Saddam, too. :o/
Meanwhile, I shudder to see how far along the Socialists have gotten in this country in regard to steps one, two, and three.

why do you shudder to see how far socialists have gotten in this country with those steps? socialism is much better than what we have now.

ok, sociallism is 1/2 way between communism, and capitalism. commies and socialists both scare me, because 1, look at individual productivity... NONE, 2, why over tax those who earn their money, to feed the lazy? castro has been helping chavez achieve his goal of a "sea of happiness" in venezuela, it's called communism, and it defeats the idea of free will. communism ad socialism are both immoral and unjust. if kerry wins in november, i have no doubt that we will turn towards the evil called socialism, which , over time will becom marx's vision, communism. if it's not so bad, why have't we lifted the cuban embargo? what are we fighting for in iraq? freedom and democracy. communism is oppression and something must be done to stop it all over the world.
