Chavez Thugs Shoot Innocents
That's how it begins. Quell all opposition, divide the people, and mute those whose voice might be heard.
Just like Castro did in Cuba, Chavez and his thugs are now working their supporters into a frenzy of hate. My family was pelted by rocks and bottles and slurs for being anti-Castro in Cuba. My father was detained and beaten a slew of times. A mere twist of fate saved his live. There will be many many men like my father in Venezuela now.
On Monday, several of Chavez' men shot into a crowd of protesters while his supporters pelted them with rocks and stones and bottles. One woman, a 61 year old grandmother, was shot and later bled to death in hospital.
The recall election was rigged. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind about that fact. Dictator's do whatever it takes to stay in power. My heart goes out to the freedom loving people of Venezuela. They have no idea what's in store for them.
No idea.
Thanks to Michele for the heads up.
UPDATE: Yoan put it quite succinctly:
People keep talking about democracy for Cuba and for Venezuela. But what we need in those places is liberty - in the American tradition - first and foremost. Democracy is often the tyranny of the majority, which is why a demagogue and tyrant like Chávez or Castro can get up and lecture the world about "participative democracy" just after he's committed a megafraud. Democracy is good, liberty is better.

Jimmuh Kawtah signed off on the election, so it had to be on the up and up. [/snark]

The same article explains how the companies -- Smartmatic & Bizta -- that made the voting machines & the software were in Mini-Me's pocket

Val:
When you get a chance read the comments for the post dated 2004-08-19. Read Steve Hunt's commentaries. Amazing! How does such a progre even survive with fanatical rightist Cubans everyday? Geez Val I never realizes you and your compatriots ran Florida as a republica bautista oligarca derechista de Cuba en exilo
He slurs those that voted against Chavez. As if the 40% is part of the oligarquia

Xavier,
In case you havent noticed, Cuba is a shithole, all thanks to the leftist socialist communist whatevEr you want to call it revolution of Fidel Castro. If people starving - and please, save the imperialist embargo diatribe for someone who might swallow that bunk - people without the right to free expression, without the right to travel, without the right to go anywhwere they want in their own country, without the right to read whatever they want, without the right to follow thier intellectual pursuits, without the right to own their own property, without the right to express dissent, without the right to choose their leader is what you prefer, then, yes, by all means, three cheers for the Chavistas and the Fidelistas!
And let me state right here in no uncertain terms, Cuba may not have been a paradise under Batista, and he was a dictator, but that does not take away from the fact the Fidel castro is much much worse. He destroyed a culture, destoyed the richness of the island's agriculture, destroyed the cuban family and murdered, whether directly through mock trials or through a Cuban rafter dying in the ocean seeking freedom, tens of thousands of Cubans.
Peddle you leftist socialist crap somewhere else, we aint buying it here.

Val:
You misunderstand me. I failed in being sarcastically humourous and I apologize. I despise Castro as much as you do. He and his camarilla have taken a country that had the second highest standard of living and destroyed the country. Not just economically, but morally too. I worry if Cuba will be similar to Russia after its communist experince: full of sadness and nilism. I hope not. In the meantine, I'm counting the days when the barbarian dies; Cuba will be finally rid of that scum and the people will finally be free to live their lives and be responsible for their decisions without the party or the CDRs bossing them all the time.
Again I apologize for the misudnerstanding.

Jimmy Carter has destroyed every last shred of reputation he had IMHO by jumping into bed with Chavez and the neo-communists in Venezuela. You should check out Narco News sometimes and see the spin that the "authentic journalists" like al giordano put on the chavez movement.
Democracy is all fine and good, until we can wrest the power from the bougeousie. :-/

Hold on, all. Evidence is needed before shouting fraud. The situation is tense enough. --s

Scott,
What do you think the chances are that Chavez will allow for such evidence to come to light?

Val,
More on the issue from the Wall Street Journal: http://www.opinionjournal.com/wsj/?id=110005509
Carter is hardly above Buchanan in the antipantheon of American Presidents.
