I Can't Wait to Honk.
Ever been out in your yard or in a parking lot or walking down a sidewalk and hear a bunch of people honking their cars horns? What do you immediately think it is usually?
A traffic jam? A wedding? Rebel rousing after a football game? Some kind of local parade you forgot about?
You want to know what the very first thing this Cuban-American living in Miami thinks when he hears a bunch of cars honking in unison is?
Fidel Castro is dead.

I once told Rachel that I understood why some people found Che Guevara to be an inspiration. ...That he wasn't for me but I understood. I shrugged it off the same way when my father told me that Che was one of his favorite "heroes." [Read More]

We hardly ever hear car horns in North Texas. They are only rarely needed and then usually by a yankee (please let him be only a) visitor.
Howsumever, you do present a very good reason to scare the spiders out of the horn.
What have you heard?

On Fidel's Death
Fidel Castro dies, and a search begins for a proper burial place for the Maximum Leader, but no one seems the agree where that place should be. So, they decide to ask the wisest man in Cuba, Pancho, an old farmer at the Sierra Maestra mountains. Pancho says they can bury Fidel anywhere in the world except Jerusalem, just to make sure he doesn't resurrect after three days.
***************************************
Raúl Castro is saying the final words at the burial of his brother Fidel: "What we are burying here is not a man, is a seed!" An old bag lady among the crowd attending the burial yells: "I'll kill the sonofabitch who try to water it!"

You better stock up on champagne now. There'll be a stampede for it when news hits that Castro is dead!

The last time I heard our city honk spontaneously was when the Jaguars beat the Broncos in the playoffs.

Unfortunately, contrary to the belief of some, Fidel's death will not change Cuba immediately. The machinery of oppression that his despotic regime has built has a life of its own, and Fidel's likely successor, his brother Raúl, is as bad or worse than Fidel. I fear that, in the early going at least, any successor will be even harsher towards the people of Cuba. Nonetheless, we can hope that his death will be the castalyst to finally bring about the change so desperately needed on the island.

The only change needed in Cuba is an end to the illegal and immoral US blockade and the return of the stolen port of Guantanamo Bay (currently and disgustingly in use as a torture camp).
The only despots are those Miami mafia who would do anything to get back their mansions and servants in Cuba - It's not going to happen. As much as you gusanos hate to admit it: the overwhelming majority of Cubans support and defend the Revolution.
Y que viva mil veces nuestro comandante en jefe.
