SANTA CLARA, October 14 (Diolexis Rodríguez Hurtado, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - Police launched a raid directed against self-employed peddlers in Santa Clara Wednesday, fining a number of them and confiscating their merchandise.

The police operation started at about 5:30 a.m. and lasted until noon, and was mostly concentrated around the San Miguel market and the bus terminal.

Police confiscated sacks of sugar and flour, cheeses, milk, fish, avocados and other foodstuffs, and fined peddlers between 750 and 1,500 pesos.
