Cuban chosen as Head of Commerce
President Bush chose Carlos Gutierrez, chief executive officer of the Kellogg Co, to be Secretary of Commerce.
Gutierrez, whose family fled Cuba in 1960 when he was 6, joined Kellogg in 1975. Known for having a strong work ethic and a seemingly endless stream of ideas, he worked all over the world for the company before being promoted to president and chief operating officer in June 1998.
Damn, we Cubans are everywhere.
Here's a pretty good bio of Mr. Gutierrez from Hispanic Magazine.
But perhaps he is best summed up in the words of his parents:
“My husband would always say to me, ‘He’ll go to the top, you’ll see,’ ” Gutiérrez’s mother Olga says.
Felicidades, Señor Gutierrez.

Yayayaya!
Unfortunately, they all can't be as good-looking as my boyfriend, Andy Garcia, or yourself. But you know, I don't hold it against them.
Aheh.

I think this is a shot at Castro. Who else but the cereal magnates are bucking for the end of the trade embargo? Who else but the Commerce Deparatment is facilitating them? A Cuban-American will never let them pass. I think Bush intends to bring down Castro in his lifetime. Watch the screaming from Havana about this.

Val, do you think that having a Cuban as the Secretary of Commerce, will have an effect on the current orgy of direct sales to the regime. An even more important the resent rumor that some of the companies doing business in Cuba were giving the regime credit on their goods.
I sure hope that this guy will bring a voice of reason to the Commerce Department.

Guitirez has been trying to sell Mexican manufactured Kelloggs Corn Flakes in Havana
since at least the 2000 Havana trade show.
