And the beatings begin in five...four...three...two...

The EU will suspend all sanctions against Cuba next week. The dictator's plan of releasing a dozen or so political prisoners in order to get in the good graces with the Euros worked.

How long thereafter will castro's next crackdown begin?

There's never an egg timer around when you need one.

Where's US diplomacy when you need it? What the heck have they been doing? Europe gains nothing from this, except to annoy the Americans. Condi Rice has got a lot of housecleaning to do. It's time to kick some Europe butt and start enforcing the hard parts of Helms Burton. No more Mister Nice Guy.

Once again, European Union : Soviet Union. The similarity cannot be coincidental.

Old Europe pushed it through, no doubt. Useful idiots.

Hello...I read about you in today's Herald. Expect a flood of response.

I am Cuban-American, 41 years old and have lived in Miami since 1968. I went to school at Conchita Espinosa Academy, Our Lady of Lourdes Academy and UM (o sea - cubanita con credenciales). I am also a Democrat, a card-carrying memeber of the ACLU and completely against the Embargo and the current administration's heartless tightening of travel restrictions to Cuba

As for this topic. Perhaps the EU is finally acknowledging that the *failed* US policy againast Cuba is not only economically unsound for them but also completely counterproductive insofar as resolving the Cuba problem.

For 40+ years the United States has been giving Castro "en bandejita de plata" an excuse for *his* failed economic policy. And has served as the Goliath to Castro's David.

Clearly - it hasn't worked. Why should we expect Europe to continue with the charade?

Go ahead...fire away, I can take it. :)
