Desaparecido (Updated)
Disappeared. A cold, chilling, word in Latin America, redolent of death squads and dirty wars. The castro regime has started disappearances in Cuba. Stefania reports the first delegate to the National Convention on Civil Society, to be held this weekend, has been disappeared, taken by castro's henchmen to places unknown. His name is Antuan Clemente Herandez. Here is part of the article Sefania cites (click on her link for the rest):
Miami, Florida, May 16, 2005 – Through a telephone call at 6 PM today, we were informed by Martha Beatriz Roque Cabello, that member of the opposition movement and activist of the Assembly, Antuan Clemente Hernández, has disappeared, after receiving a citation from the political police (state security) on May 12th.
The article also says castro's thugs are trying to stifle the news. As Solzhenitsyn once wrote - it's the circular relationship between violence and lies - the violence is there to enforce the lies and the lies are there to cover the violence.
Antuan is part of a Civil Society movement to forge out the first institutions for a free Cuba. To castro, this is an unforgiveable crime. And now he has lost his semblance of freedom, such as it can be called in an unfree place like Cuba, for making this effort, thinking these thoughts. He is now in a Cuban prison.
Where is the mainstream media?
These Cubans have put their liberty and very lives on the line to lay out the groundwork a free Cuba. In this regard, those they resemble are the founding fathers of the U.S. But dangerous as that was, the Cubans are deliberating in an even more perilous environment. castro intends to destroy them. His henchmen are out looking for them. If you pray, pray for them. If you can, call the mainstream media. And click on one of the links cited here to offer to them, your heart's and mind's support.
They are up against a monster. This monster must not win.
UPDATE: Juan Paxety has more information about supporting the Civil Society assembly. There is a support center. Click here.

What will the Free world do?
I don't bet Europe will do something.
But the US gov't should take punitive measures against Castro.

Don't expect the mainstream media to cover this. "Los desaparecidos" are only interesting when they come from countries with right-wing dictatorships, like Chile and Argentina--not the workers' paradise known as Cuba. It's going to be up to the blogs to get the word out.

I would appreciate if anyone can help me in locating a photograph of Antuan Clemente Hernandez. Please e-mail it to me ASAP. I am making a flyer to be distributed at Cuba Nostalgia and to be sent to the press American, Cuban (these two as punishment for their silence) and the international press corps (hopes not waning...) but mainly to be posted in the Blogosphere. Thanks.

This yet another tactic to suppress the APSC this weekend. I saw that he has everyone riled up and protesting over the Carriles issue. This is a diversion to get the mainstream media's focus away from the assembly. The "Useful Idiots" take the bait every time. This disappearance won’t even be a blip on our screen my brothers. Don’t forget to call and order sandwiches from "the cuban revolution.

The mainstream media are at cocktail parties in Manhattan or Georgetown where Castro is a welcome guest. Don't forget that they did everything they could to get cagastro into power in the first place.

The mainstream media is too busy covering Cagastro's bombast about Posada Carriles. CNN had a 5 minute segment about the demonstrations in Havana demading that Posada Carriles "be brought to justice". Not once did they contrast the massive organized rally with the upcoming peaceful assembly to promote civil society. It would have been the perfect time to talk about the real situation in Cuba. But guess what, they just aren't interested. They only want to report whatever makes the U.S. look like the bad guy. I don't have a problem with them reporting Possada Carriles but they should spend the same amount of time talking about U.S. fugitives living Cuba.
Bastards.

This is the opressive fear of freedom that Marti wrote.

looking at the situation in Cuba from a distance it seems that W is working at cutting the US away from Venezualan oil and getting ready for some action down south.
Don't underestimate Houston.
Maybe the play is to get China in the lurch once they bet trillions on commie economies in the G of M just like the Russian lost big on. Thank you "environmentalists" (commies) for blocking drilling offshore!
Cuba didnt drive any 747s into the WTC so theyre def on the back burner but somethings up with this farc/chabez/china/castro shit.
The entire Iraq war is run out of Tampa (USSCOM)remember and theyre not blind.

Carilles will be used as a smokescreen to cover the current crimes of the regime, and the MSM will play the tune that the maestro calls.

Also, remember the interest that China has now in the Panama Canal.

Shut up Val. What do you know? Haven't you heard that Cuba has free healthcare and 100% literacy?

Just read they are beginning to impede the entrance to foreign dignitaries.
The first two, euro-deputies of Polish nationality, who were summarily, denied entrance through the Varadero airport, put on the next flight out of Cuba and sent on their way.
As far as the American press NOT A GOD DAMN THING !
From the EU .. NOTHING . In other words the MAXIMO HIJO DE PUTA will get away with it again!.
