Dial-up Convention Blogging (Updated)

This is the first post from the Cuba Nostalgia convention room floor via dial-up. I just had the telephone line run from the main convention center panel to my space.

This place is a madhouse. There are literally hundreds of people here bustling about getting their exhibits ready. The place is huge. There are two buildings and some of the exhibits are literally works of art. Many of the artists are already displaying their works. There is some really beautiful and touching artwork on display.

There's a huge Mariel Boatlift exhibit in the center my building as well as the Casa de los Libros, which incidentally is the first thing to bring tears to my eyes. They have a huge collection of novelitas vaqueras, Estefania, like my grandfather and my father used to read. I never thought that something I was used to seeing sitting on the toilet tank during my childhood would ever make me get all emotional.

The booth frame is set up already, the banners are hung, canopies installed and now, finaly, the phone line is hot. Now comes the DSL setup and networking plus running all the ethernet lines to their respective laptop locations.

Looks like Im gonna be here for quite a while yet. Stay tuned folks, there's so much more to come.

Update: DSL up and running. Network working. All is coming together.

Val, great post! I loved all the details you gave us. Thanks. This is my first time in the blog. I can't believe they are having a Cuban-Nostalgia Expo in Miami. I wish I was there :-(

Feeling nostalgic in Louisiana...

Val, this is all SO exciting. I know I don't comment a lot, but I read all the time. Your heart, your passion, your commitment ... it all just shines through, and I am thrilled to read what you post next. Cuba Nostalgia ... beautiful! You make us see it with your own eyes.

Best of luck, friend. I probably don't have to tell you this, but you should be very proud of yourself. Of this blog, and what it is capable of accomplishing. It's truly an inspiration.

Estuve en su "booth" y tuve la alegria de poder
enviarle a esa gentuza crapulosa y satrapa en
Cuba, un mensaje corto.

Nuevamente mil gracias. Necesito la direccion
para enviarle una pequena contribucion y poder
obtener los "t-shirts".
