Cuba Nostalgia Preface
I am blogging from the Cuba Nostalgia Convention pre-opening party. There are literally thousands of people here.
Music is playing. Un buen guaguanco.
There's a black cuban guy walking around with a basket yelling "Hierbero!" Men are proudly strolling their Cubanas. Their wives or novias. Cubanas, with and without wrinkles, all dressed to a tee.
I dont know if there is anything more beautiful than the Cuban woman. To all the gentlemen out there reading this, you have absolutely no idea what youre missing. Todas estan como Santa Barbara.
I dont know how many times I have fought back the tears today. Had to hold them back while the convention hasnt even officially started and I am already a basketcase.
As I finished typing that last sentence, someone came by and said "Are you the Babalu guy?"
"Yes, I am," I said as i stood up to shake his hand.
"Thanks, man," the guy tells me. "I read you every day. Keep doing what you're doing."
I thank him, shake his hand and once again fight back the damn tears. Tommy, who's standing next to me, gets all watery eyed too.
Con~o, such abeautiful culture and people, and their true beauty only allowed to express itself in exile.
Le ronca.

This is great! It sounds like it will be even better than you could imagine. If I didn't live thousands of miles away, I'd show up just to shake your hand and thank you for what you do. Instead, I'll be following things online.
Another thing, I can't shake the idea that there should be a Babalublog victory tour of Cuba someday. When the time is right.
Anyway, can't wait to hear what's happening over there! Congratulations!

If there's anything I miss about being away from Miami son mis damas cubanas... bueno, mejor dicho...mis JEVAS!!! They're a dime a dozen here in BFE, Ill. Anyhow, I wish you all the success in the world during the convention, and keep up the good work man.

Sorry I couldn't make it in person, Val, but consider me there in spirit.

What a wonderful experience, Val! You have put so much into it, tu corazon! I feel euphoric reading this and look for more live blogging. It's coming and we want to hear the sights and sounds. Love the dude who walked up to you and asked if you were 'the babalu guy.' Kinda cute!
