Right now, in Cuba
fidel castro is boring the shit out of the Cuban people with his "special message" in response to the meeting today of the Assembly to promote Civil Society.
As usual, he must be center stage with his rhetoric to counter any dissenting voices in his attempts to keep he Cuban people at bay by keeping them deaf, dumb and blind.
Ay, fidelito, la rutinita ya esta vieja.
I hear fidel will be announcing that he will be selling George Foreman Grilles to all the Cuban people. At cost, plus a 20% surcharge for his "troubles."

BOYCOTT PAUL McCartney,
Apparently the Island of Cuba has become the Mecca of aging rockers with leftist tendencies and a high Viagra consuption rate...
Paul McCartney Considers Cuba
Paul McCartney just might be hitting the road again next year, and returning to this side of the Atlantic. But so far there's been no talk of U.S. dates. ABC News is citing a Cuban newspaper which says the former Beatle is trying to work out a deal to play a show on the island. Talks between McCartney's people and the Cuban government began after the legendary musician wrapped up his Back in the World tour with a show in his hometown of Liverpool, England, earlier this month. The Cuban Culture Minister has reportedly already approved of the proposed show. McCartney visited Cuba three-and-a-half years ago, and has said he'd like to return to the Caribbean country. If the show takes place, it wouldn't likely happen until sometime next year.

Oh dear, looks like Sir Paul has forgotten the lyrics of his own song. Perhaps we should remind him:
You say you want a revolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Alright, alright
You say you got a real solution
Well you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well you know
We're doing what we can
But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell you is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Alright, alright, al...
You say you'll change the constitution
Well you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well you know
You better free your mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
[And to the the brave men and women of the Asamblea...]
Don't you know know it's gonna be alright
Alright, alright
Alright, alright
Alright, alright
Alright, alright
Alright, alright
[Over to Willy]
Porque NUESTRO dia
Ya viene llegando
Ya todo el mundo lo esta esperando
Ya viene llegando
Hay Cuba hermosa y primorosa
Ya viene llegando
Porque somos un solo pueblo
Que va cantando
Ya viene llegando
Ya viene llegando
Ya viene llegando
Ya viene llegando...

Ah, who knew, way back in the 60s, 70s and early 80s, that the day would come when Fidel who boot out guys from Czechoslovakia and Poland for undermining his government?
(Yet ANOTHER tribute to the great job The Gipper, of blessed memory, did in winning the Cold War).
I bet the old Stalinist cries bitter tears in his bed at night, weeping with regret, nostalgia and longing for the good old days, when officials from Eastern European countries were Reds just like he was and is, and not representatives of free nations. Fidel's world was one big Comintern back then.
I'm sure he cries for his beloved Comrade Che, and for Comrade Stalin, his hero, and all of his other beloved Dead Commie Comrades like Nikita, and Brezhnev, and Andropov, and Chernenko, not to mention Mao, Ho and Salvador Allende.
Don't worry, Fidel -- you'll be joining all of The Comrades soon enough. And if you think Havana gets hot in mid-summer, well, just wait . . . .

That is Funny. Last week I was talking about the rice cookers with a mexican friend of mine. He thought it was a good idea. I said, "What if President Bush made an announcement that we would all be required to purchase rice cookers at 75% of one months minimum wage or about $720.00. His arguement was americans don't eat much rice. I said, ok George Foreman grills. He got the point. Anyway, wish my wife could read your website. The SoB hasn't let her out yet.

On Nov 2001 McCartney was in the Bahamas and there were rampant "chismes" that he was going to play in Cuba (in Oriente) the same week I was there. McCartney did make it to Santiago as a tourist but the trip lasted less than 2 days. On his way out a Cuban press person asked him hurriedly " "Juen llu uil plei in Cuba?" and McCartney flippantly turned to the guy and said "Next week" and jumped on his private plane and bye bye.
Whether he does or not play Cuba. I am so fucking ambivalent about this, you have no idea.
Coincidentally I am listening to The Beatles anthology as I write this.
As a young man in Cuba under all that oppression I would’ve given anything my life would’ve been complete, hope would’ve filled my every pore had I seen The Beatles play live.
All I can say is that I put myself in the new generation space, surrounded by poverty and despair and all of a sudden be given the opportunity to see at least ONE “BEATLE”... Probably 90% of the people who would want to see him are anti-Castrists (I am sure my old fart buddies who were never able to get out would BE THERE!). Do we advocate taking that moment from them?
Imagine McCartney signing “Yesterday” to a stadium filled with the disfranchised, with people whose only crime to be under this eternal torture was to have been born under the rule of a The Beast. We KNOW that Paul playing Cuba would have nothing to do with $$$ and I am pretty sure he is not a Castro lover, cause he got the hell out of Cuba passing up any photo-ops The SUMO HIJO DE PUTA would’ve loved to have with him.
I remember reading that when the song “Back in the USSR” came out, the youth in Russia was uncontrollable. It became an anthem, an anti-government chant. Never mind that the lyrics had nothing to do with anti-communism just the fact that the Beatles were mentioning them was enough.
I can see Paul McCartney playing in Cuba. I can also see him ending his concert with a “VIVA CUBA LIBRE”
Now wouldn’t THAT be a motherfucker.

KillCastro,
I hope he doesn't dissapoint you and embarrass the hell out of me. I promise that I will write an apology if he doesn't play in the Tribuna AntiImperialista and if he says something like Viva Cuba Sin Dictadura, because the leftopinkos also say Viva Cuba Libre.
Yes, many anticagastristas will go see him. If they are allowed in. Like you do, I think that he would play for the love of rock'n roll and nothing else, there's not a penny to be made there for him. I hope that he would not made into a puppet by a swift and shrewd manipulation of the government.
You know that I got my badrap down there in Havana for liking rock. For me it's dissapointing to see somebody going there and not even mentioning that his records were "verbotten" by the kastronazism. I hope that Old Macca embarrass me and I certainly hope that he proves me wrong and that he ends up his concert by saying: Abajo la dictadura, down with oppression.
Possible, yes, doable yes, that he takes the risk, I don't know. Maybe if we write to him. What do you think?
Let me know please and we start a letter writing campaing so Macca knows what are our expectations and how he can effectively harm the dictatorship.
