The Anti-castro Mafia
Kathleen made a comment in a previous post that deserves a long answer:
Since I've returned home from South Florida I've been catching up on the news. I've noticed something, and it makes me sick. We always see the Miami Cubans referred to as the Cuban Mafia, those crazy anti-castro Cubans, etc. I assumed that this came from the liberal politics of the media. I've changed my mind. It comes from hate. The same kind of ignorant, irrational evil hate that drives the kkk, neo-nazis and others of their ilk. I'm hoping someone can convince me I'm wrong about this but I don't think so.
I agree with you. Cuban Americans are the most successful group of immigrants this country has ever seen. In one generation we had become a part of the American dream -- with very little help from Uncle Sam. As Val has written before, Cubans resuelven. We take care of what needs to be done and we do it well. The bias that exists is a reflection of the political and racial prejudice of the MSM and the pointy-headed leftist "intellectuals" (and I use that term almost humorously). We do not kowtow to them and act like victims; we do not like their politics and they know it because we tell them; we vote Republican in large numbers and they hate us for it; when we protest an evil man and his evil regime they call us crazy or they call us the "mafia" as if to imply that poor fidel is the victim and not us, who lost everything to that SOB.
We want to solve our problems (Cuba, for example) if only somebody would let us do it. All in all, we are a people that have been blessed by "can-do-it-iveness" -- regardless of the obstacle and regardless of circumstance. My grandparents came here and didn't speak a word of English. They survived by hard work. My parents worked their butts off as well. I have worked since the age of 16. Their is nothing we have attempted that we have not achieved -- save one, and that is the liberation of the country of our birth from a monster. With this blog Val is making his contribution to that cause.
We embrace the USA and love it. As I told you last weekend -- I think it was you; too many mojitos may have impaired my memory -- America has given me everything I have and I thank and love her for it from the bottom of my heart.
One of the t-shirts that we did not have the funds or time to do for the show was one I designed that said on the back:
CRAZY ANTI-CASTRO CUBAN MAFIA
I did that as a parody, and as a message as well, to the leftist "bomb-throwers" who love to take shots at us. They can call us whatever they want. We don’t care. Our cause is noble and our cause is right. Names like that one only reflect the ignorance, stupidity, and vapidity of the ones hurling it.

WALL OF SHAME
I'd suggest a Wall of Shame, or CASTRO'S WALL OF SHAME, or CUBA'S WALL OF SHAME, first showing a picture of fidel, a list of his atrocities, pictures of the rubble that is Havana today, and then a list of castro supporters, especially the Hollywood elite and then their assinine statements in regards to fidel.
Or, perhaps it could be done as a Website.

Before I started writing about Cuba last month, I knew nothing about the situation there except what I had sort of absorbed from the MSM. I am proud to say that by speaking the truth I have been dubbed by a couple of commenters "an anti-Castro fanatic." On the one hand you might say "What does she know?" but I think that someone who is willing to take a fresh look, and starts with the premise that anyone who doesn't allow the Red Cross to inspect their prisons must have something to hide, can't be branded "one of those crazy ex pats" with any honesty.
Perhaps you all don't feel like you need any validation, but this is one Yanqui that thinks you're completely right.

Thank you, we need to keep getting the word out. I love this country and very often I feel that this country does not love us because of our views on Cuba. Your comment meant allot to me.

i think that terms like those come about because of the tactics used by certain elements within the miami community.. we cannot forget the bombings of padron cigars, milan getting his legs blown off, the countless acts against stores who send packages to cuba or the agencies that arrange trips to the island, the freakshow that was los vanvan at the miami arena, and so on and so on.. you know how ridiculous the city appeared to the rest of the world during the elian case? even today i get questions about that where ever i go.. again, it is the TACTICS that i think many have issue with, not the message.. "para los americanos", free liberty and expresion are tantamount .. however, it is a "your rights end where mine begin" attitude.. you have the right to protest, but others have the right not to subscribe to your view.. you do not have the right to interfere or impede with others excercising their rights to listen or attended or travel or buy whatever they wish.. if i want to buy silvio rodriguez albums, i am well within my rights to do so.. i am in the united states, not a totalitarian country like say, i dont know, cuba, where the government dictates what i can and cannot buy.. its part of the hypocrisy that ive mentioned before.. everyone thumps their chest and screams about castros atrocities and tactics, but employ the same when it suits them.. (yes, even murder has been used at times, violence has been used as well) castro controls the island, but they think nothing of trying to control issues such as what bands can play here, what artists can perform, whose paintings can be shown, whose books should be read, and who can travel where.. it is the tactics that earn certain elements those titles..

You said "I love this country and very often I feel that this country does not love us because of our views on ..."
Sweet, silly man! That comment alone shows that you are truly one of us (Americans). The vast majority of people I know here in the Mid-west and at home in the Deep-South (which is NOT the same as Florida, LOL) feel that exact same way much of the time. We all feel isolated and unloved and alone if we accept what the MSM tell us. According to the MSM, this country doesn't love me either because of my views on ... practically everything.
I like this blog because its the opposite of MSM. (Yes, thats a compliment) Instead of encouraging isolation, it creates communication. Thats especially important because with communication comes education. I've learned tons about Cuba here. Things I would never have learned anywhere else. With that comes understanding. An understanding that you are just like the rest of us "normal" people. You hate tyranny and love your country. You might as well have been born in Texas! (Yes, thats a compliment).
BTW, anytime you feel like this "country" doesn't love you ... remember that you must be doing something right if the mainstream media hate you! Just a thought :)

Mora, thank you very much! I am honored! Please read my comment to Daniel regarding other comments he has made. While it does not address this comment directly, I point out to him that his words echo those of the castro regime, the dialogueros, and the apologists. See for yourself. Daniel:
Dude you keep saying the same thing and all of your comments are the same. What tactics? Ninoska and Perez Raura? Get off it all ready. So, they are free to say what they want. No one on this blog is telling you what you can listen to. I'm a musician I listen to what ever I want, no one cares and if I suggested a book that I think is good it’s just a suggestion. I read all kinds of books, the communist manifest, even Mine Kompft. That doesn't make me a Nazi or a communist. BY the way skip Mine Kompft its boring and pure dribble. ( sorry if you feel I'm telling you what you can do and not do)
The suggestion is so you can read something outside the MSM, you can draw you own conclusions of course.
Maybe I don’t do enough, but I know one thing; when ever I have run into a Cuban outside of Miami a reach out my hand and let them know that we are not what they are being told we are. You can do or not do what ever you want.
