Let's Make a Deal!
Remember that game show? Daytime TV with Monty Hall and all the contestants dressed up in costumes? Well, let's see what's behind curtain number one with our latest contestant dressed in green military fatigues, shall we?
Castro Shows Off Energy-Saving AppliancesFriday May 27, 12:39 pm ET
By Anita Snow, Associated Press Writer
Castro Shows Off Energy-Saving Appliances Being Distributed to CubansHAVANA (AP) -- Looking more like a game-show host than a head of state, a jovial Fidel Castro dressed in military uniform and flanked by government ministers went on live television to show millions of Cuban viewers how to use new energy-saving rice steamers and pressure cookers.
In one of his increasingly frequent live appearances on state television, Castro joked Thursday night as he demonstrated kitchen appliances which Cuba has begun distributing at heavily subsidized prices to combat the island's energy problems. He assured Cubans that those who did not have them yet would have them soon.
The cookers, light bulbs, electric fans and other appliances are designed to help prevent blackouts common here in summer when Cuba's aging electrical grid is overtaxed.
"They are our hope that we get to August without Yadira having to kill herself," Castro joked, referring to Yadira Garcia, Cuba's Basic Industry Minister, who held a microphone for him.
Castro announced in March that 100,000 new pressure cookers would be made available to Cubans each month, saying the appliances will use half the energy of the homemade ones they are replacing, at about the same price.
In another recent television appearance, the Cuban leader stood up to lecture around a display of unique Cuban appliances -- including homemade rice cookers and an old fan operating on a Russian refrigerator motor -- which he said were hazardous and used too much electricity.
This, folks, was the big speech Cubans were waiting for yesterday. I dont know whether to laugh my ass off or cry.

Incre'ible!
Here we have the Maximum Hypocrite himself joking about suicide in the country with one of the highest --if not THE highest-- suicide indexes in the entire planet!
Otro logro de la Revoluci'on, without a doubt (for you monolinguals, that means: Another achievement of the Revolution").
Que Dios lo ampare --may God have mercy on him... because we will not!

That's usually the two faces of drama: laughter and crying... The cagastrotragedy has it all....
Cuba has in fact the highest suicide rate of the world. That's the first cause of death in Cuba for women, and the second for men. It's also the first cause of death for teenagers, the highest in the world, and they are not counting escape attempts as suicide, even if one third of the balseros never make it to dry land.

We've been concerned that hugo is copying fidel - now it seems fidel is copying hugo as a TV personality. Both are disgusting.
Posted by: Juan Paxety at May 27, 2005 02:23 PM
Juan, he's been a "tv personality" since day one. It's just getting worse by the minute in the air!
Chavez is new in the game, still a rookie...

Too bad one of my childhood's favorite TV shows is no longer available on Havana's CMQ Television - "El Circo de Valencia." El minimo-comediante could have made guest appearances there, entertaining the masses as "kagastro The Clown."
The Nielsen rating? Priceless!

I'm sure those cookers will make wonderful planters.
You know why Fidel didn't give away bigger cookers? Because people would jump in them and try to float to Miami.
Posted by: Steve H. at May 27, 2005 02:44 PM
Right on the money Steve! judging by the efforts of the guys who floated all the way inside a bathtub and an old fridge, everything is possible!

CB,
And let us not talk about abortions in Cuba... If we took *those* into consideration, there's no doubt that the country of Cuba has the largest, proportionally speaking, rate of death on Earth.
How can *anyone* defend a regime with such a record?
Are you listening, Barba (Red) Blanca, and others?
Julio
Posted by: Julio C. Zangroniz at May 27, 2005 02:52 PM
Julio: They defend him because they are too arrogant to admit that they fucked up by helping him take power in the first place.
One day soon the people will turn on him and he’ll be wearing those stupid pots for a hat. That day I'll die of laughter and probably never make it to Cuba.
And as far as the death rate is concerned, he doesn't care. 60% of pregnancies end in abortion, highest suicide rate in the world, and all of this works in his favor. The more people die and leave for the US the less people he has to worry about. Of course, the MSM won't report that. They have to protect their image. Mean while Bush can’t cut a break to save his life, no mention that he’s a decent man trying to run a decent country.

Didn't you write on the 'rice cooker' issue earlier? What a joke! Great post.

http://www.killcastro.com/PuntoyComa/index.html.

I think all the liberals should be made to go live in Cuba until it gets sorted out. That is, of course, if the people of Cuba don't tear them limb from limb.

I just saw/heard the group Punto y Coma through the website listed above. They are FANTABULOUS!!!
What would be the mechanics of reproducing their material in audio casettes and/or DVDs for possible distribution at the next edition of CubaNostalgia?
I am seeking an arrangement that would be fair to the artists; not seeking to rip them off in any way. What would be the current legalities of getting payment(s) to them --offhand, I can see how it would be in direct violation of regulations of the U.S. State Department and God knows how many other federal agencies.
Regardless, I think the work of Punto y Coma is well-deserving of wide dissemination on this side of the "charco."
I urge everyone here to log on and give it a listening. You won't regret it.
I particularly enjoyed the interview with the zoo director, the song about Russians and the one about pizza. Belly-busting howlers, one and all!
Can anyone else chime in with some advice?
Gracias por adelantado.

These guys are just SO good it is hard to express. Those are the few samples I have found laying around; they have one skit where they talk about a "gay" COMA-ANDANTE (surely Raul) that will have you peeing in your pants. They invariably say the "ROBO-LUTION" and immediately they will correct themselves with “Oye chico es que el empaste se me cayo y no hablo muy bien”
I actually approached them cause I also think that (as Carlos Varela, also from the same neighborhood) they do deserve to be heard. They say that it would be impossible for them. Unlike Varela the Cuban Ministry of Culture considers them subversive and will now allow any dealing with any foreign companies.
They pretty much live from tips and actually make money by having a RAFFLE of all god damn things in the middle of the show, one dollar to buy you a ticket; if you win you get some Cheap RUM. I just had to give him $50.00 cause I felt so bad for these kids these guys.
The leader of the group is the blondish guy in the middle of the pic, and he is not only funny but EXTREMELY intellectual, also very paranoid. Had it not been he knew my cousin he wouldn’t have even come to the table.
If anyone can strike a deal and get the tapes out the mechanics are easy, you do the selling from Canada (Like Varela does) and all the $$$ stays in Canada until someone personally brings them the money. Castro sees SHIT because they can’t even be performing much less selling contra-revolutionary work overseas.
If you want more info email me I have some phone numbers and email addresses in Cuba that may be able to get you going.
They DO deserve a CHANCE!

Please spread the link they deserve the recognition. Maybe SOMEONE can help them make a living in that hell hole.

Val, he's trying to edge Ron Popeil out of his job.

KillCastro,
I loved all the skits.
I will make a cover for the CD... Please e-mail me a bigger resolution photograph of the group (if you don't have a bigger photo I can design a cover without photo, why make the G2 goons ID'ing work easier???) and let's do something to get these guys going!

Val.
I was also listening to Radio Mambi (not something I do too often) it caught my attention because Perez Roura ( i think) was talking about blogs and how many people from all over the world visit these sites...the guy he was interviewing was from the realcuba.com where they have all the depressing pictures of Cuba, news etc....they were stunned by the fact that so many people from so many countries have looked at the pictures and inquired about the present situation in Cuba.
I was hoping your blog would be mentioned.
Keep up the good work!! as I mentioned to Juan.

CB they got COJONES the size of CHIRIMOYAS!
Thats the only pic I have of them , I am diggin more info. I can probably get in touch with them through Carlos Varela Manager, Let me see what i can do.
They had an underground website in Cuba (someone emailed it to me today to see if I could get a few more MP3s of course it is gone!)
Luckily for everyone the showbiz crowd around that area (Miramar/Marianao)is all against Castro so they are pretty friendly towards each other.
There are subtle things you gotta hear that for us pass over our heads.
Like when they say something needs to be done before the 15th that means that the food in La Libreta only lasts 15 days so thats when you have all your energy .
The other oe is ALL the police in La Habana is from Oriente, that way they have absolubtly no scruples beating the shit outta someone, cause they will not know them.

Oye Kill Castro... my computer couldn't pick the info... I'm going to try it later on a friends. Anyhow, I'll post your link on my site.
And Val, man congrats for the radio props... changing the world one post at a time. And BTW shame on you for not listening to Radio Mambi more often. ;-) Hehehehehehe... You know I use to ignore that station as well as WQBA when I lived there (viejito AM stations, right?), until I moved out of Florida. Now, when I'm back para la visita, I always have it on when I'm driving (unless ZOL 95's Vacilon is on). And I even catch it online, go fig.

KillCastro, I got all of those punch lines, I've been out of cagastro's reach for 12 years only. But certain things (probably) are (totally) obscure to me...
Have you seen Habana Blues yet?
I have still to catch up on that one!
Posted by: CB at May 28, 2005 07:28 AM
By the way, KillCastro, let me know where I can e-mail you my design for the "Crazy Cuban American Anti Castro Miami Mafia" t-shirt that is already making the rounds.
Posted by: CB at May 28, 2005 07:31 AM
When is Castro going to make available to Cubans something to cook in their new appliances?
Posted by: Van Helsing at May 28, 2005 11:40 AM
CB, email me at killcastro@hotmail.com or at alpha@killcastro.com.
BTW found a few more pics and MP3s last night.
Isn’t here a place on line that will make you t-shirts and caps just from a high-res graphic?
I haven’t seen Habana Blues yet, but I wrote a script treatment named "Tristeza en La Habana" about 12 year ago and it made the rounds for a while as "Havana Blues" so they STOLE my title boo-hoo!
Posted by: KillCastro at May 28, 2005 01:37 PM
Van Helsing,
That topic --the eating stuff that will go into the ollas-- will be, presumably, discussed by the Maximum Liar in a round table next week, or the one after that, or the one *after* THAT, or whenever the damned Yankee Embargo allows the Glorious Revolution to continue to pursue its destiny. But not now.
In fact, the Maximum Tergiversador hasn't even covered, yet, where the electric power to heat the ollas will come from. But the people of Cuba can enjoy more and longer apagones... each and every day.
Otro logro del Socialismo!

HARDLY A DENT...
There are 11 million Cubans, so the Giant Cockroach is planning on distributing 100 thousand rice cookers, which will hardly register on the Richter Scale of tumultous events in Cuba.
Then, Pressure Cookers, extremely useful in cooking hens too old to lay eggs or tough stringy beef, or a good stew from either, neither of which would apprear to be in plentiful supply in Cuba today. Hell, I sold them door-to-door back in 1948 in Tulsa, where almost every family in that area of town kept chickens. But a Rationing system without rations makes them pretty much useless.
Either one, however, in an emergency situation, makes a good pee-potty.
Posted by: howarde at May 28, 2005 08:16 PM
Oh the most rapturous event that could happen with heavy dose of irony would be infidel himself as he hawks one of these miracle rice cookers gets cooked himself.
