Oh Danny Boyyyyyy...

The following story was titled "Mainstream Media Grilled in Cuba" by Prensa Latina. However, it has since either been removed from their servers altogether or they're having site problems as it shows a 404 error. Here's the same exact story with a redacted title from Ahora Cuba:

Cuba Hosts 4th Culture and Development Congress

Ahora.cu / 06-06-2005

The 4th International Congress on Culture and Development begins Monday in this capital, with the attendance of some 500 national and foreign figures.

The aim of the event, to run until June 9 at Havana´s International Conference Center, is to analyze cultural policies, diversity and heritage.

The forum will be divided into six professional groups, in which attendees will analyze folklore, popular culture, neoliberal domination, diversity, gender, race and minorities, as well as the role of heritage and culture regarding tourism.

Foreign figures attending the meeting include US actor Danny Glover and political scientist James Cockcroft, Italian novelist Valerio Massimo Manfredi, Venezuelan narrator Luis Brito and Brazilian actress Leticia Spiller, among others.

Among the Cubans are Roberto Fernandez Retamar, Lisandro Otero, Marta Arjona, Miguel Barnet, Julio Garcia Espinosa, Reynaldo González, Eduardo Heras, Eusebio Leal, Rogelio Martinez Fure, Eliades Acosta and Desiderio Navarro.

The International Congress on Culture and Development comes from a document signed in Mexico in 2003, which called for reflection on problems related to survival of the human species and its culture.

The ubiquitous Lethal Weapon himself, Danny Glover, at the right hand of his new plantation master fidel castro. Que lindo.

And can someone please explain what, exactly, "neoliberal domination" actually means?

I can't get anything to work from Presna Latina this morning. Must be their servers. Maybe too many rice cookers have sucked up too much electricity.

Neoliberal domination means "those who don't toe our political line." In other words, people who insist of thinking for themselves rather than having "the party" do their thinking. Simple.

Appart from Julio C. Zangroniz says, neoliberal domination stands for the series of economical changes occured in Latin America during the 90's when the goverments of the region tried to switch to real capitalist economies, calling this a Neoliberal process (from the Liberal school of economics); and due to the incompetence of the ruling political class, this effort failed. Now they blame all the problems Latinamerica has to Neoliberalism, as you can see, instead of the incompetence of th current idiot ruling the country (I am venezuelan, I know when an idiot is ruling a country).

"neoliberal domination"

I think it has something to do with Carl Marx, black latex, red ball gags, and riding crops.

Why isn't Glover under arrest? What business does he have there?

I sent the following email to the Secretary of State along with a copy of the Prensa Latina article. http://contact-us.state.gov/ask_form_cat/ask_form_secretary.html

Can you please explain to me how it is that Danny Glover is allowed to travel to Cuba to attend this shameful event? Culture and development in Cuba? Cuban citizens have no human rights, I would think that a prerequisite for any analysis of heritage, diversity and cultural policies. How can they speak of diversity when the country is ruled by a self-appointed dictator and no dissent is allowed?

Way to go Kathleen, Do you think you will get a reply?

"Danny, Danny,
Went to Cuba
To sit on fanny,
Rant and Rave,
From his mouth
Lord please us save,
Stuff him full-a
Burma-Shave!"

Very funny Alberto! No Mojoman, not beyond the auto response, but I'm hopeful that one person will read it and maybe think.

Thank you, Kathleen! Coming up with that shorted out about 50% of my rapidly-dwindling neural connections.

In the list appears Venezuelan Luis Brito. Least anyone is confused, Luis Brito is a mediocre intelectual, if we can even qualifiy hims as such. A guy that did not have a great career before Chavez, and has not managed to do much better since.

Posted by: daniel duquenal at June 10, 2005 07:42 AM

And Danny Glover has also been throwing his weight around in Venezuela. Chavez even offered to finance a movie for him. I suppose he could play the role of the courageous bolivarian defending Venezuela against an imaginary yanki landing....

HTF can Glover ignore what is happening in Cuba? I will never for the life of me undrstand the mind of these liberals. Does he think the stories of the prisons in Cuba are made up? Does he care? Maybe he would like to see American conservatives in similar conditions? What an unbelievable asswipe. There has to be a special place in hell for him and those like him.
