No, this is not a parody
If you read this you'd think the great Steve H wrote this as a parody on HuffingtonsToast.com. Unfortunately, you'd be wrong. Here is an excerpt:
[The base at Guantanamo] is "ours" only because we seized it by force: while our troops were in Cuba a century ago, we compelled the Cubans to agree to "lease" the base to us for a nominal rent . . . But we should recognize that not only in Cuba but throughout Latin America, Guantanamo is known as a symbol of American empire and of mistreatment of our hemispheric neighbors.
Oh, the humanity! How can we be so, so evil! Forgive me for asking, but if Guantanamo is a symbol of our mistreatment of "our hemispheric neighbors," then what are Combinado del Este and Boniato symbols of? Can someone please explain to me how anyone can be so mind-bogglingly stupid?

Return it to the Cubans. I can see it now the hijo de puta will turn it into a museum and add millions more to his coffers showing his pimps (sometimes called tourists) the evil imperialistic gulag.

I saw on the televised news this evening (Telemundo - Miami), the U.S. government released documents that purport Luis Posada Carriles discussing an act similar to the Venezulan aircraft incident prior to its occurance. A copy of this document appears on the National Security Archive web site. http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/
While he is in U.S. custody, seeking asylum, why would they want to assist in releasing information that could potentially harm him even if the even if the ascribed excerpt in the document does not bear any significance?
It appears as if they are preparing to throw him over board.

Haha, got to put quotation marks around everything that's "ours" or "theirs" or whatever, if it was seized by force, like all territory on Earth.
I linked ironically to your Guantanimo post awhile ago. Haven't figured out how to do trackbacks on blogspot yet.

The blind spot about Cuba from lefties is a source of amazement and entertainment. I am certain that only their anti-American bigotry permits them to fall into the intellectual fabrication of Cubans actually supporting the (real) gulag that Castro has turned the island into.

What's really funny is there are actually people that think that way. The public school system continues to churn them out.
Does it strike anyone as ironic that the owners of the original gulags are the ones the lefties worship?

Do you this how this all relates to the BS Gulag claim posed by Amnesty. It's not about the prisoners or even Iraq. It's about the base that the prision is in: Guantanamo Bay. And how many ignorant people want it closed. Of course, what goes unmentioned is that the US pays for the base, and always has, and since Fidel went into power he has never cashed one check.

WOW - the American "empire" Guantanimo - larger than the Roman, bigger than the British! Give me a break. How many square miles is the base? What about when Cuba was part of the Soviet Empire? These Latin Americans hate us because they have nothing better to do and they suck too. F-ck em!

Gitmo: Primer territorio libre de Cuba. The rest will follow. Whether the huffin-puffin-tons-a-huffin' of the world like it or not.

Guantanamo the Gulag and the news... this is nothing but more crap from the left media to divert our attention away from Iraq.
I say send Michael Jackson to Guantanamo NOW!

It's simple: This person has likely never had the pleasure of a visit to GITMO. I've had the pleasure of an all-expense paid trip courtesy of our Uncle Sam, not once, but twice. I can assure you that, to me, it's the hottest, least comfortable place I've ever spent time on.
Furthermore, if anything, the U.S. government did a great service to the island by leasing Guantanamo Bay. It's a barren place that otherwise would be scrub land. We keep it up, keep it tidy, and ensure the banana rats and iguanas stay on our side of the fence. He should be grateful it wasn't somewhere a bit more hospitable to human habitation. We're doing Castro a favor by keeping this port open!

so stupid

If any of these idiots condemming the "American imperialists" for taking Gitmo ever took the trouble to compare between it and the rest of Cuba, they would realize the following:
Gitmo if it wasn't for its excellent harbor, is nothing but a very hot and arid place when compare d to the tropical lushness of the rest of Cuba. It is a place where cactuses grow freely and the mountains tend to block cooling breezes from the ocean most of the time, and the soil is not the best in Cuba. So the abusive Yankees basically negotiated possesion of one of the worse places in the island in exchange for years of paying top dollar for Cuban products and investing in the island. Wow! What a bunch of crooks, you've gotta be kidding!

You know, when Cuba is free, if all the Cubans who are American citizens returned home, there would be enough political force to petition to join the union, should the people be so inclined. An independant, sovreign Cuba is a wonderful thing, and it will be better when it is free, but it will always be at risk from tyrants. If Cuba were part of the US, then it would enjoy economic prosperity and absolute protection.
I'm just asking hypothetically, what do Cuban-Americans think of such an idea?

I'm sad to say that it seems Sen. Mel Martinez has taken the leftist position regarding Gitmo (reg. required): http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/12/politics/12martinez.html
