More torture for Cubans

You think Im kidding?

It's not enough that Cubans are oppressed.

It's not enough that they lack the most basic of necessities.

It's not enough that they lack the basic human rights.

It's not enough that they lack the basic civil rights.

It's not enough that they cant do a damn thing without fear of repercussions.

It's not enough that they have to endure the Commitees for the Defense of teh Revolutions.

it's not enough that they are indoctrinated.

It's not enough that they are second class citizens in their own country.

It's not enough that they must stand and listen to hours long speeches from the walking liver spot fidel castro.

No. It's not enough.

Now, they are going to be subjected to listen to Air Supply.

For the love of all that is good and righteous in this world, how much more torture can these poor souls take?!!

My God. I still lived in Cuba in the Eighties. Air Supply was considered "diplotienda music" or what we know in the States as Muzak, elevator grade. Which in reference to Air Supply is really a damn undeserved compliment.
That's like if somebody poured hot caramel down your ears, for Pete's sake. I certainly didn't know anyone that was buying or selling Air Supply records in the black market. If you ask me about Jimi Hendrix's well, that's another totally different story!

Maybe Air Supply will put El Coma Andante to sleep and he'll forget to wake up - ever. And there'll be nothing left but some fatigues that smell like BO containing a dust made of crumbled liver spots, especially if the sun comes up before Count Castrula gets back into his coffin.

Man, that lame line worked on Girls each and every time! jajajajaja

Yuca, I'm with you. I must confess I even bought their greatest hits cd the other day, just to remember las fiestas de los sábados and slow dancing with the girls "making love... out of nothing at all...."

But man, outside that, it is cruel and unusual punishment.

Hmm. That's a way interesting list of countries they visited. Maybe they can customize some of their hits for this performance. Instead of "Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You), they could have "There You Are" (Just When You Thought We Weren't Watching You), instead of Making Love Out of Nothing at All" they could have "Making Dinner Out of Nothing At All". I'm sure there are more titles, but I wasn't much of an Air Supply fan!

From Granma(1):
The "fresa" (2) band appeared in front of the United States interest Section in Havana, playing right into the propaganda script.
Notice the misspelling of demasiado (too much) in the newsheader (this is really TOO much)
1- Communist paper in Havana, my granma didn't like Air Supply!
2- Fresa: Havanese rocker slang for faux rock, sugary music.

• Demaciado Air Supply
8.Julio.05

Dear Val,

Although I agree with most of what you say, you have missed most of the point. I do FOH for Air Supply and did the show in Cuba with them. This was the best thing to happen in Cuba for 45 years. The people of Cuba were ELATED to have us there. They came by the thousands, happy as clams and ready to party. There were an estimated 100,000 in attendence. Some came from hours away and no, they werent forced by Fidel to be there. The concert was outdoors on the oceanside in Havana, beautiful.

However lame and corny you think AS is, they just have one simple, honest message: Love. Pretty sappy, huh? A local named Fidel (23) told me that there were half as many people at the Audioslave show there a month ago and fights were breaking out left and right. At AS, there were beautiful women on shoulders screaming out lyrics with the men joining in.

It was a truly great moment in the history of Cuba and a truly great gift for an extremely underprivileged yet amazingly gorgeus country and people. Ironically enough, Hurricane Dennis hit the day after the show forcing us to cancel a gig at the Karl Marx Theater. Poor Cubans.
