I am the Geek Squad
The power surges seem to have hosed my router. My internet connection was erratic at best yesterday. Luckily I had purchased a new wireless router this week, so I took Hurricane Dennis as a sign to take the time and install it.
Wireless life is good at the Prieto household. It only took me a whole day.
Ive been wanting to cover the damage to Cuba from hurricane Dennis, but Mora did an excellent job with her point by point coverage and Robert has a couple of good posts with links at the 26th Parallel.
As soon as the rain stops, I will be live blogging from ManCamp via the new wireless. I can't even begin to imagine the repercussions of having a computer and internet connection amid BBQ grilles. Lord help me.
MORE: I received this via email yesterday from Raices:
Hello to all,As you know Hurricane Dennis struck Cuba yesterday as a Category 4
storm. Recalling the damage Hurricane Andrew inflicted on South
Florida we can only imagine the unreported damage to the many
underdeveloped and unprotected areas, especially in Central Cuba. As the
young leaders who care deeply about Cuba it is our responsibility to do everything in our power to help the Cuban PEOPLE in their time of need.We are currently reaching out to our contacts throughout the cummunity to
discuss means of sending supplies/funds to the island without the Cuban
government's intervention, setting up collection locations, and preparing
to launch a media campaign to ensure the community's participation. We need help on all levels, if you wish to assist in some way or have any information/contacts/suggestions that can help make this a success, please reply to info@raicesdeesperanza.org.
Raices de Esperanza: DESPIERTA!
I will be contacting them to assure that donations will in fact reach those in need. Im not thrilled about sending funds, but any help with necessities would be greatly appreciated.
Update: Via Paxety, the Real Cuba has some info and photos.

Welcome Val to Wirelessland. This is a great place! Wiring in the CB (Concrete Bunker) was not a viable option and I am happy to tell you that all of our cagastroblaster machines are working full blast!
Hey, but I don't have a canal or ManCamp in my backyard! Way to go, bro!

The best way is to send whatever you can to specific persons inside Cuba and they will give it to people in need. That way nothing won't reach the ñangara establishment.
Sometimes a needed item or medication is a more powerful proof of care than a greenback and the upside is that it won't go to cagastro.
Otherwise, the Catholic Charities is an organization to trust. But never, ever, the misgoverment. Side note, even before American aid was offered, cagastro set off onto rejecting it in a round table venom spewing session. Oh, and he "humbly accepted" EL MICO CHAVEZ offer. This means that two countries will be (even more) pilfered using Hurricane Dennis as a cover, and that Hurricanes fidel and micochavez are the only benefitiaries of this scam that they are putting together as we speak.

Val, I'll see what I can do about the rain.
It might be a while, though.

GeekCamp, with a webcam and online midget porn. An idea whose time has come.
If the water is rough next weekend, it may be time to think about paella, followed by enormous quantities of Key lime pie.

Interesting....
I just received the same email from Raices about trying to help people in the Island, etc...
However, my cousin in Sti-Spiritus (near Cienfuegos) just informed me that all donations to Cuba such as clothing, shoes, etc, are sold in a store front called "Shopi-Trapos", DONATIONS ARE NOT DISTRIBUTED TO THE PEOPLE OF CUBA!! THEY ARE SOLD like merchandise, AT A PROFIT!!!
HIJOS DE SUS GRANDISIMAS MADRES DE PUTAS!!! So let's be careful with Raices....

And one more thing...
EL VIEJO BABOSO compares Dennis to El Imperialismo Yanki!!
Castro said if Dennis came to Cuba through Playa Giron, Dennis will be defeated just like the "mercenaries" when they invaded Cuba in the same spot!! Way to go Fidelito!!

Thanks for all the storm info On Cuba. Fido should be on his last legs. I pray that what comes next will not be like Fido or Batista for that matter. I'm no big fan of organized crime, prostitution, gambling etc. as a way to make a government viable. It just weakens the people by preying on their vices and not uplifting their virtues. Maybe I'm pollyanna, yet I hope Cuba takes the high ground next time around.

My good reverend,
Batista was a dictator and his regime was corrupt. But there is no comparing the inhumanity of the present regime to the previous. Yes Cuba had some casinos and some adult entertainment but no more than you might find nowadays in most US cities. Anyone that tells you any different is lying to you. Economically Cuba developed dramatically during the period of 1952-1958. That is not defend Batista but to state a fact. In 46 years of Castro, Cuba has only gone backward. Cuba needs democracy and pluralism. The future of Cuba isn't going to rest on whether or not they allow a few casinos or burlesque shows to operate.
