Apagonazo cubano
The blackouts are continuing in Cuba at this late date. Whole neighborhoods and villages, cities and farmhouses - in the sweltering summer heat - are pitch black. There is no hope except possibly for candles mailed from relatives abroad. If they can get that. Usually, they cannot. All the Cubans see are the mocking billboard signs above, from castro, telling them all is fine while they burn away in the lightless, airless nation. This is castro at work.
The Chicago Tribune has a superb article about the true conditions that linger through Cuba since the hurricane that devastated the island. Tellingly, it notes that the $1.4 billion damage figure is the "official" one. And implies it is false, for it is. The true damage is worse, much worse. The private numbers from aid officials who know are for $3 billion damage, given the extreme neglect of the castro dictatorship and all its lack of regard for human life.
But castro is obstructing aid, including even aid from the life-saving tsunami teams fresh from that huge humanitarian enterprise. The monstrous castro is keeping them out. And offering Cubans only blackouts. castro says Hugo Chavez will pay the $400 million he needs for aid reconstruction. As if that was all. But aside from a ship full of roofing materials, castro's Houseboy in Caracas hasn't come through. He hasn't even offered more than that ship. He can't. He's wasted Venezuela's oil bounty. No one can aid Cuba. This is true face of castro. He is the devil.

Isn't it deliciously ironic that the world is getting to hear some truths about Cuba from someone named Marx?
Meantime, what's happening with the hurricane relief efforts launched from "el exterior"? Can anyone fill in some of the blanks?
Perhaps we should organize a telethon called "Velas para Cuba!" --and if we could wrap the packages in canvas, as well, the recipients could return them in an effort that would be called "Velas desde Cuba."
I need at least one cafecito to stop this silly thought processes. Couldn't fall sleep until 4 AM, then my injured knee woke me up soon after.
Mu'erete, Viejo Enclenque de Mierda (you know who you are, and I know you read this blog!).
