This just in from Cuba, in Spanish, but working on translation:
COMUNICADOACCIONES REPRESIVAS PARA EVITAR MANIFESTACION FRENTE A EMBAJADA FRANCESA EN LA HABANA
(Julio 22, 2005)
incomunicados.
Update: Reader Felix P. translated the article for us:
We spoke at 11:30 o'clock with Yarai Reyes, the wife of political prisoner Normando Hernandez Gonzalez, who was at the home of Martha Beatriz. Yarai informed us that Martha Beatriz left her home at 8:30 AM to pick up Felix Bonne. Journalists from several media outlets have arrived at the house and have said that Martha Beatriz did not make it to the French Embassy.Yarai also reported that neighbors informed her of the significant presence of a number of police and State Security agents since the early hours of the morning in the streets around Martha Beatriz’ home.
Yarai added that Katia Sonia Martin Veliz, one of the secretaries of the Assembly to Promote Civil Society, arrived at the home of Martha Beatriz and reported that political police agents had come to her home and hit her and her twin daughters, as well as her husband who was taken away in handcuffs. “It was a living hell,” Katia stated.
A bit earlier we were able to make contact with Felix Bonne Carcasses. He told us that he has been waiting for Martha Beatriz Roque since 9:00 AM to go with her to the French Embassy building. Martha never showed up to pick him up, nor has he been able to contact her or Rene Gomez Manzano by phone; all their lines are down
