To Babalu Readers

Some of you may have received an email from the-ever-so-busy-at-filmmaking-with-so-little-time-to-read-little-blogs BAM complaining that he/she had been banned from commenting on this blog.

I banned BAM last night after receiving a ridiculous threat of lawsuit and being told that Babalu Blog is now being monitored by the FBI, supposedly, after the Bureau was contacted by BAM. I figured it to be the prudent thing to do and I emailed BAM with the following:

I will not offer or publish a retraction of anything I have written on the blog. Nor did I threaten you with bodily harm as I responded and made clear in a second email. The comment thread pretty much speaks for itself, and it will prove in court, should you wish to pursue this, that I have neither libeled nor slandered you. Especially, of course, since you chose to comment anonimously.

To prevent any further misunderstandings, and since you have publicly
threatened me with a lawsuit, I have taken the liberty of banning you from
commenting on my site.

If you review said comment thread further, you may find that the slanderous
and libelous statements made were directed at me, from you.

I wish I could say its been nice, but, well, you know.

Val

NO RETRACTIONS. NO APOLOGIES. I WILL NOT BE THREATENED OR COERCED.

If you do not like the opinions stated on this blog, then I suggest you use the back button on your browser and get the hell out.

Good thing that the FBI is monitoring us. So they will know what to do with all those people breaking the law and dealing with the enemy, with all the cagastro supporters and so on. Way to go. I think that the FBI will start investigating many interesting leads about the activities of BAM, Moro and the like!

Val: "Mucho ruido y pocas nueces," or "much ado about nothing." A pendejo is a pendejo, of course, of course, and also a horse's ass, of course. And that is what you are dealing with here. So, ni te preocupes. And if you need any support in case of a lawsuit, count me in. I doubt you'll see a lawsuit, as BAM should know much dirty linen can be unearthed during the pre-trial discovery process.

Since BAM so loves film, maybe it is time for BAM to experience Citizen CANE - doesn't have to be in Singapore...but this is only my opinion and I am solely responsible for its contents.

A couple of questions:
a)where's the defense fund button? ;-)
b) you woudn't happen to have this prick's IP address, y'know, like, just lieing around? I got some really rancid software sitting around here that needs...exercise.

Yeah, that's the ticket: "Exercise."

And "BAM"? Before you even think of lawyering up on me, be advised that the Brooklyn DA is my godfather, the Staten Island DA was a classmate, and that means whoever the fuck you hire and point at me, I got five double-wide rows of guys who will bury your ass for me, for free, just to get invited to my backyard barbecues.

You dumb little fuck.

My reply to said letter:

BAM,

First of all, thanks for reading my site. I am honored. Two things, though. First, the label "Afro-Cuban," as we use it does not refer to people; it is a cultural reference. For example, an "Afro-Cuban religion" might refer to Santeria, or variants of the Lucumí or Yoruba faiths; "Afro-Cuban music" refers to a specific style of playing with native instruments and using native rhythms. I have never heard a "black" Cuban referred to as an "Afro-Cuban" as you erroneously stated (Webster's Dictionary notwithstanding); we just call them "Cubans." Second, you took the quote from my site completely out of context, but that's OK. What that quote refers to is that no matter where you were born, you can be an American if you embody the American Spirit, and who we have had to defeat, by force of arms, when it is threatened. I feel strongly that fidel is as grave a threat as the gentlemen mentioned in the quote. We did not dialog with them, and we do not dialog with fidel. Period.

But here is the most important part that you have to take away from this "intercourse" all of us have had: I am a Cuban. In my bones, in my soul. I cannot deny the culture that brought me forth. I tried for years, but I gave up. I am what I am. Whether it's Martí, Maceo, Celia Cruz, Amadeo Roldan, Desi Arnaz, or Beny Moré, there is a uniqueness to our culture that is with me in my DNA.

You cannot pretend to be Cuban. We can make you an honorary Cuban, if you are worthy of it, but you can't make it up.

It is obvious to me, and to others as well, that you know next to nothing about Cuban culture. I am not talking about what you have read, or heard, or have gleaned from a few visits to the prison island. No. I am talking about the culture that has been lovingly kept alive, right here in Miami, for 46 years. My mom, my grandmother, my grandfather, all the other moms, dads, grandparents, uncles, aunts, ex-political prisoners, Brigade 2506 veterans, the books, the music, the photographs, the memories, of what Cuba was like before castro -- before le deluge.

You see, you are no one to lecture us on what we have to think about Cuba. We have lived it. Every day. Every, single day for forty-six years. My parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins lost everything to escape fidel. Many gave up their lives – and some preferred to be eaten by sharks in the Florida straits -- rather than stay in Cuba. Have you read the letter I am translating that is posted on Babalu? Ask yourself this question: why on Earth would a paraplegic -- I am adding that he was born after the revolution, so you don't immediately classify him as a "Batista stooge" -- risk everything to leave Cuba? Have you even given all of these people even the slightest benefit of the doubt? Do you think that their voices don't matter? And this guy is not in favor of dropping the emabrgo. What a shock.

My great-grandmother died of a stroke in 1960 watching (on castro-TV) the son of a friend of hers' get executed on the paredón by this wonderful guy you want to dialog with. So please, don't expect us to be sympathetic to fidel -- he is the only one who will benefit from dialog and the lifting of the embargo.

And, he has spilled too much innocent blood for us to EVER forgive or forget.

And the people on the island, do you think they like the apartheid that exists? You benefited from that apartheid. You were eating at the tourist spots, not the hell-holes the "people" have to eat at – when there's food. You were an enabler to the system of repression that exists on the island. You, and Luis Moro as well. Just by being there and granting him legitimacy.

I am saddened by people who are so blind to the reality of Cuba. You would rather dialog with a monster, than defeat him. You would rather give him your money, than repudiate him. There is no moral basis for a decision like that. None. I do not break the embargo. I do not send money to my relatives, and I do not visit. When I go, it will be in a Cuba free of fidel castro, so I can reinter the bones of my grandparents who died in exile crying for the land they lost to a monster. This monster, Bobbi -- fidel castro -- whom you want to make nice with.

I will have none of it.

HOLY CRAP!!
THIS AM...MY MAILBOX WAS LOADED WITH BAM'S REPLIES!! A LITTLE OUT OF CONTROL TO SAY THE LEAST. HE/SHE WAS RESPONDING TO EVERYONE WITH ALL THESE THREATS OF LAWSUITS AND FBI REPORTS...GOOD!! I HOPE THE FBI IS WATCHING!! ABOUT TIME!! THANKS BAM!! SHE THINKS VAL IS A DICTATOR! GOT TO LOVE THESE IDIOTS!!
GET THEM OFF HERE...THEY ARE LIKE A VIRUS!

Posted by: CARMEN at July 27, 2005 07:59 AM

If he/she did email everyone in the thread, than it could be consider spam. That sounds like a legal matter.

Posted by: Laz at July 27, 2005 08:41 AM

Great reply George! Your comments cover what most of us have felt and what needs to be said to idiots like BAM. The Moro's and BAM's have to be challenged and confronted by us at every turn because their lies do help castro.

Posted by: Jose Aguirre at July 27, 2005 09:25 AM

I deleted her email. My email has that handy little feature...

Posted by: j.scott at July 27, 2005 09:39 AM

I got an e-mail as well, although I did not participate in the thread. That means BAM's been checking us out, more than she'd probably admit to.

I took the time to reply. We'll see whether that was a mistake or not.

Val - we got your back.

BAM....I am tired of you and your threats chica!!
Lets make sure that you and I understand each other.
Most of us in this "little blog" (as you call it)are CUBANS!!! or lived in CUBA under the dictator's oppressive thumb (unlike you) most of us have family members still living in Cuba. We don't give a rat's ass about your ACLU lawyers and FBI reports, to make life easier for you, my husband has been with the FBI for over 20years, and trust me this blog and all other blogs have been and are monitored by them way before you and Moro came into the picture.
Go back to your life in Alabama ( I have lived there) where the best thing to have come out of that State is Interstate 20! As I asked you previously, do not try to contact me on my private email,I have no desire to communicate with you personally or in cyber space.
Bestluck promoting Moro's film, no matter where you go, you will find Cubans like us EVERYWHERE!
We will not compromise our integrity over folks like you "dear"

Guys,

If you continue to get emails from BAM, please do not delete them. Save them or forward them to me. If she continues to harrass you, I may have to seek a legal avenue to remedy the situation.

Thanks.

I haven't checked my inbox at home yet, something to look forward to later. This collaborating apologist for castro and his law breaking buddies are threatening to sue? Have contacted the FBI? Man, I would love to speak with the FBI regarding these poor offended assholes who are in cuba aiding and abetting the enemy. I call that treason. Want to sue me bam? Be my guest. By the way, what does the bam stand for? Below average morals? And yes, I take full responsibiltiy for my words. And Ditto to all the above, and what Robert said, Val, we've got your back.

Of course people like BAM are mad...if they love Castro they are not going to love "free speech" unless it involves their self-serving rhetoric. He/she is just typical of the kind of schizophrenic tontos that roam the streets of Portland and Seattle. They think the CIA and the FBI are evil tools of beauracracy that slaughter innocent people and rule the world, but they are quick to threaten investigation when people speak their minds.

KillCastro -

"Meyer:
We can see the red streak ... from fucking Jupiter at night with an overcast sky!
How many assholes like you do you think we have met in 46 years .. just a rough guess."

What are you talking about?

"the label "Afro-Cuban," as we use it does not refer to people; it is a cultural reference. I agree and I would even take it a step farther. There are Cubans that prefer to call everything "Cuban." For example, salsa and timba have European elements, but you don't hear it called Euro-Cuban music. It is Cuban. There is strong Afro content in the religion, combined with Catholocism. Thus it is distinctly Cuban. Remember BAM was brought up in the U.S. Labels have more importance for Americans than Cubans.

This is your lucky day. I decided to do my CLE and pay my bar dues, instead of retiring permanently.

Posted by: Laughing Wolf at July 27, 2005 02:44 PM

Ooh! Ooh! This sounds like fun! Get pyrrhic threats from a lying, pinko psycho who can't stand free speech unless its his/her limited, myopic POV? Where do I sign?!? :^D

Hey, BAM! Come get some, baby! (click, click)

It bears repeating, Val...got your back...

Posted by: Dave R. at July 27, 2005 08:48 PM

Hi Val, BAM (I'm sure your reading if you can), and the FBI -who I'm sure has nothing better to do but to monitor this site while bombs go off in London.

BAM is obviously in need of some attention. Maybe she's not getting any. Maybe she's a frustrated artist who has nothing better to do, but to trash someone with as much writing talent as Val. How else could someone fathom coming to a site containing content with which one objects to, and then gets furious that the people here object back? It's a self imposed martyrdom seeking to be loved and victimized. And one is only as much a victim as one receives attention. Hence, her erratic emails to people here. Anyone with an inkling in Psychology can understand and spot this simply realizing that she's nuts.

As for the FBI. I say great! Nobody here has anything to hide. If anything, we're on the same side, and maybe the FBI can learn a thing or two about Cuba from Val. Hell, I would like to cordially invite whatever FBI person who is monitoring this, to my site: www.cubanamericanpundits.com and to any other site mentioned in Val's post: "El peor enemigo."

Val: I got your back.
BAM: See a psychiatrist.
FBI: How's it hanging?
