That's a nail bomb, as described accurately in the Manual del Guerrillero or Manual del Terrorista penned by that lovely guy che guevara. (see Handbook of the Guerrilla fighter, or Handbook of the Terrorist, by che guevara) No wonder many of those Palestinians received training in Cuba, and then they spread this kind of "knowledge" about the world. Generally speaking, those are built to cause the biggest amount of injuries (non live threatening injuries) so the victims live in a terror nightmare for ever, fearing the next bomb. They are not called "maquina infernal" (hellish machine) for nothing, in the anarchist argot.
