The worst thing outta Brooklyn
I am a former New Yorker, and I adore the bright winter sun and hazy summer heat alike in the speckled spangled urban landscape that is Brooklyn. I love the green of the parks and the cool of the harborview near the Brooklyn Bridge. I love Howard Beach, Bayview, Bensonhurst, Coney Island. It's an acquired taste but I find it energizing - but let's see, for the flip side, what are the grossest things I have ever seen outta Brooklyn?
The fat sewer rats under the bridge at Red Hook? The vomit on the subway platform at Atlantic Avenue? How about the shattered glass by the burnt out house in Bed-Stuy? The degraded bottle bums at Nostrand? No, no, none of those. HERE is the grossest thing I have ever seen outta Brooklyn, right in your face from blogger Da Man, at GOP In The City:
Cop-Hating, Military-bashing, former Black Panther-turned NY City Councilman Charles Barron (D-Brooklyn) has turned his attention to normalizing relations with Communist Cuba. Barron plans to introduce legislation later this month that would call for the lifting of the embargo on the island.
The NY Sun also reports that Barron praised Cuban dictator Fidel Castro as a better leader than President Bush, "There is no question in my mind that Castro is a better leader than Bush" Barron said. On America's Cuban policy, Barron stated: "It's the racist arrogance of this country to tell a country of color what kind of government to have.
Oh gawd and it only gets worse. Read the whole thing here.
UPDATE: The "dignified" castro movie clip he has posted will make you feel better.

I think Rep. Barron needs an enema. A big one.

But there would be nothing left!

LOL!

Does the Councilman realize that Brooklyn does not set foreign policy and that any "legislation" he comes up with is meaningless to the embargo?

Rep. Barron is a legend in his mind...

See? It's all about perspective.
I thought the worst thing out of Brooklyn was the "egg cream". Man, those are NASTY!
:)

He probably doesn't have enough to do to keep him busy.

Thanks for the link. I have noticed that Barron is always on the news...usually blasting cops.
One time there was a bank robber who started spraying an area with gunfire. The NYPD returned fire to protect the civilians who were all around. In the gunbattle, a civilian was hit in the butt. There was Barron at a press conference at the man's bedside bitching about how the bullet in the man's butt was probably from a police officer. What a douche' bag.

Hilda. I have looked into your soul and now I understand why you are the way you are: you don't like Egg Creams! Here is my ideal lunch in New York City: a cup of matzoh ball soup, heavy on the chicken broth, gobs and gobs of hot, thinly sliced pastrami (a little fatty) on rye bread (not seedless), spicy brown mustard, one (or two) half-sour -- not dill -- pickles, french fries right out of the fryer, and a big egg cream to wash it down. Heaven on a plate. If there are no egg creams, a cream soda will do.

thats one of the problems for those who oppose CERTAIN aspects of the current policy towards cuba.. you get people like this guy who opposes it while PRAISING castro.. im sure by now someone has googled him or his office and started a slew of phone calls and letter writing campaign..

I'm with you on the Matzoh ball soup - but I like it with plenty of "condumio" light on broth (in fact I may have that for dinner tonight!); I'm there for the pastrami, preferably encrusted with crushed peppercorns, ditto on the seeded rye bread and pickles - I'll pass on the fries though.
But the egg cream - man, that's just wrong! And cream soda - yuck! Gimme a good old fashioned coca cola and we're good to go!

Like the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the NY City Council and numerous other left-wing municipal entities appear to spend more time passing non-binding resolutions stating their opinion on matters outside their control than, say, actually running the city. OTOH, maybe in some ways that's actually a good thing. ;-)
(Having drafted similar nonsense at the state level, they're typically sent to the President, the Speaker of the US House and members of the local congressional delegation, as well as other federal official as relevant to the particular resolution. My guess is that they straight to the "round file" upon receipt in DC.)

Here in San Francisco, we call the Board of Supervisors the "Board of Stupidvisors."

If he thinks castro is a better leader than Bush he should move there (WITHOUT his retirement benefits).
And didn;t san francisco declare itself a "nuclear free zone" some time ago? Yeah, I'm sure the North Koreans said "oh damn" and scratched them off their targetting map.

Yeah, I am an ex-denizen of San Francisco and Regina's got that right. Oh mannnn. On cue, they'll parrot castro-worship if called for, but generally, they don't know much of anything about anything and maybe that's why I haven't heard from them lately. Oh man... you don't get stupider than this crew.

By the way, speaking of stupid, isn't that Barron stupid? Take a look at his goal: Normalizing relations with Cuba; and his strategy for reaching that goal: insulting Bush - and in a really laughable manner. Bush is the only guy who can normalize relations - insulting him by comparing him unfavorably to castro isn't a real good way of going about it and doing it.
I don't think he's very bright.

New York Congressman Charles Rangel, who for 40 years was an unconditional supporter of the Castro regime, turned against the dictator when Castro executed, at lightning speed and without even the semblance of due process, several black Cubans who had liberated a boat in a desperate bid for freedom. Rangel, who represents himself as African-American but is actually Puerto Rican, for once his career took a principled stand on Cuba (although he's been backsliding lately). No doubt Councilman Charles Barron will have a similar epiphany when Castro next aims his guns at people of color.
