Carlos Santana praises che, abuses Cubans

I tried. I tried hard to think of some reasonable excuse for Carlos Santana wearing that big ugly che tee shirt at the Academy Awards. I tried to write it off as a one-time mistake. I tried to dismiss him as ignorant. I tried to dismiss him as not thinking. I tried to come up with all sorts of explanations. They were wasted brain waves. Carlos Santana is completely in bed with his boytoy che. It's gross.

And I despise them both.

Charlie Bravo at KillCastro has the whole sordid story of Santana and how he stuck up for his che tee shirt, despite the impact on his intelligence. Despite the dressing down he got from Cuban American greats on the music scene. He just sucked up harder to che. Making matters worse, he BADMOUTHED the Cuban-American community sin verguenza.

Carlos Santana, you are vile. I will buy no more Santana records. Not ever. Read the whole miserable thing here.

Mora I been living in the states for quite some time and I never, never seen a Mexican anti castor .all of them to me are the same .el gismo parrot con different collar .
Santana is the real deal Mexican 100% .
This is way I don’t give a rat ass about their issues on the illegal immigrants .
Seal the borders we have enough tacos in the states.

Posted by: tocororo at August 16, 2005 08:13 AM

Tocororo: I know Mexicans who detest castro. Have hope.

It's a shame...one of my favorite albums is "Supernatural". I used to play it all the time...not anymore! I even change the station now if one of Santana's songs comes on the radio.
Que descara'o!

I know what you are saying, Amanda. The man makes good music. Why is it everything else that comes out of his mouth is so ... gross.

Here in San Antonio, there's a very vocal but small minority of "activists" who actually use Che has a moniker. It's sad. Do a google search on Chavel "Che" Lopez and read his comments on Chairman Mao. Very sad.

Posted by: Ed at August 16, 2005 10:43 AM

Wow, that's just... sad. He should know better, but apparently he's so steeped in hippy leftist culture he just can't help himself. And I like his music so much too.

Santana is a typical chicano - what can you expect but ignorance & envy.

Posted by: bynki at August 16, 2005 12:58 PM

His behavior is shameful, but only slightly more objectionalbe than the rest of the Hollywood types that glorify castro & ernie 'che'. That list is endless.

I guess getting buggered as a youngster must've scrambled his brain.

I'm 100% Mexican and Anti-communist to the core. I hate everything castro stands for, and I support this blog for that. I have many friends who(typical chicanos, huh?) who dispise castro.
Santana is a piece of shit hippie before being mexican. "Santana is a typical chicano - what can you expect but ignorance & envy."
Nice. One guy = an entire country of people.
If I had known this site supported hate towards Mexicans, I would of never come here. Thanks, Babalu Blog, I enjoyed reading you, but I can't come here anymore. This "typical ignorant and envious chicano" knows where he isn't wanted.

David,

The views expressed in the comments do not necessarily my views and those of the contributors.

Sorry. I don't buy that for a minute. In the post where the lady in the US flag outfit, one poster's comment was deleted. I don't know what the poster said, but was it as offensive or inapporpriate as this " Seal the borders we have enough tacos in the states."
Somehow that got past your standards test for comments. And even worse is nobody called him on his racist comments. They let it fly ..no problem..Bynki even added to it saying "what can you expect but ignorance & envy."
Like I said I supported this blog, but having racists like that spew their hate is going to hurt you guys more than help the cause.

David i think once in a while we say thing that we are not suposed to said.
I said that out of anger .
I was wrong .
but I guess you don't know what it is to be cuban and hear all that trash ta people said about us.Especially poeple that are not happy about our achievments in a strange land.
Sorry I din't star the fire was already burning when I got here.
Enough is enough .I cannot turn my other side of my face and take it like a bicht.
retaliation is a form of defense.

Tocororo,

I appreciate the fact that you can admit that your wrong. And I can understand the anger, but I think it just got misdirected. Santana deserves all your anger, but because he's Mexican--that gives you the right to insult the entire Mexican population? I know I'm not Cuban and I won't go through the shit you go through. But look at the shit I'm going through right now, being called a fuckin' "taco" on an anti-castro blog?!?
Believe it or not, us Mexicans get plenty of racism, insults and violence thrown our way as well. I know that from experiance.
I'll quit rambling because I doubt I'll ever change your mind. "all of them to me are the same .el gismo parrot con different collar ." This is dug in deep. Just know there is one mexican out there that hates castro and wishes for the liberation of the Cuban people.

Salud, Tocororo.

to david
you know sometimes I act out of impulse and this shit always gets me in trouble and I generalize and it's something that I hate doing .This is an experience that we both could learn from each others culture and close the gap between the latinos in the states.

I should like to say something good about Mexicans in their relations with Cubans, but I have to go a long way back to do it. In 1894, Don Porfirio Díaz provided Martí with a substantial sum of money with which to finance Cuba's War of Independence. Twenty years later, the Cuban government sent a warship to Mexico (its only warship) to rescue President Francisco Madero, who, unfortunately, decided to stay and fight the rebels, and was promptly executed along with his vice-president.

Does anyone have the actual quotes of what Santana said? Just curious what his actual words about CAs were. Killcastro paraphrased, but it's kinda unclear exactly how Santana tried to defend himself.
