For Madeline Baro Diaz

Madeline, please forgive me for being forward, but I have to know, who are you? Where are you from? What qualifications make you an expert on Cuban and Cuban-American issues?

Do you simply sit at your desk and make a few phone calls here and there when you are writing your tripe? Certainly seems so.

Your latest "article" in the Sun Sentinel surely proves this. I challenge you to Google the recent appeals ruling of the Cuban Five and find one article, JUST ONE, that isnt exactly like yours. Parroting the very same overused and ubiquitous talking points. I'd take the time to list them here, every single story written by some other illinformed and, dare I say, biased "reporter" mimicking the same verbal diarheah, ad nauseum, but I shouldnt do your job for you.

Do you actually get paid for recycling the news? Because that's all youve done with your recent "column." There's no new news there.

You gave us this "story" following the usual useful idiot guidelines:

1. Mention the overturning of the legal ruling.
2. Mention the outrage of the Cuban-American coommunity in Miami.
3. Toss in a mention or two of events that occured decades ago and imply that they are still standard operating procedure.
4. Quote some professor at a University that wouldnt know a Cuban if he or she wasnt cleaning his kitchen.
5. Mention Elian.
6. Quote some official from the Clinton administration.
7. Remind everyone of the outrage mentioned above.
8. Toss in Posada.

And voila! There you have it. The Cuban diaspora in two hundred words or less.

Id like to know, exactly, what it is about the Cuban-American community that you dislike so much? Is it a deep seeded envy? Is it Freudian? Some Cubano break your heart? Some guy with a Cuba Libre bumper sticker cut you off in traffic?

Or were you just hired to libel the Cuban-American, extreme right wing militant Miami Mafioso community?

Le ronca los cojones. Not only do we have fidel castro and his minions preaching the Miami mafia line twenty-four seven, but we have useful idiots on this side of the pond with their cantakerous Amens!

I certainly wont wait for a response from you, Madeline Baro Diaz. This here is just a lowly blog, and you sit atop the almighty perch that is journalism today. Staring down at all us little people that look like ants from that high up.

But be careful up there on that holier than thou journalistic perch. It's crumbling. It lacks its base. The foundation is missing. You know what that foundation is, right? They taught you that way back when in Journalism 101.

It's called integrity.

Well, I said basically the same thing on Robert's blog:

May I ask an impertinent question? Is Madeline Baró Diaz a Cuban-American?

If she is, she is a hateful reminder of what the modern version of liberalism can do to a brain; and if she isn't, I'd like to know what personal axe she has to grind that would compel her to write such unabashed garbage.

I guess we're used to it, but it still tastes just as bitter as the previous thousand drinks of bile we've had to endure...

Val asked the salient questions more eloquently than I, but I'll add my own: Why?

Why do we in the Cuban American community get abused for decades by the press when there is a murderer, a terrorist, a brutal communist dictator, living ninety miles away? A man (I use that term loosely) whose legacy is one of death, destruction, and mayhem. fidel's long history make for great copy, Madeline.

I will repeat what I have said before: if you write stuff like this you are either (a) mind-bogglingly stupid, incapable of understanding and analyzing even the simplest historical facts, or (b) a willing accomplice -- a cheap version of Joseph Goebbels -- to fidel's regime.

So, Madeline, which one of these do you label yourself as?

(I think I know the answer...)

I would like to know:

1) How many of the jurors were Cuban Americans?
2) Were the jurors bribed with cafecitos cubanos?
3) Where in the U.S. would a terrorist/spy of a totalitarian country receive a "fair trial" because the population does not hate terrorists/government of the foreign spy?
4) And last but not least: Dear Madeline, did they tell you that you can't exchange "chavitos" for dollars in the U.S.?

Maybe like DeFede, she's looking to get a job at Granma

An MSM "reporter" with integrity - now that's an oxymoron for the age. In fact, moronic oxen could do a more creditable job of reporting the facts in an unbiased manner, than your average MSM sinecured type.

She must be related to that Plagiarizing Vanessa creature. What a rotten lousy worthless paper that Sun Sentinel is! Don't buy it.

Very well written address to that frightful woman, Val!

Posted by: A.M. Mora y Leon at August 23, 2005 11:49 AM

Why, why, why? Is it because Cuban Americans brightly reflect all that they are not and hate is easier, and more accepted on the left than self-reflection. I predict that we’re going to see rehashed stories like this all over the place, taking digs at the Miami Cuban American community, skewing events in an effort to marginalize any legitimate opinion in favor of convicting the Cuban 5. This is part of the campaign to free those criminals. cagastro and his American pimps are frothing at the mouth in anticipation of the welcome home party in Havana for these murderous thugs.

I googled the chick - gosh what a job-hopper. She was at AP in Dallas, at some Puerto Rican paper, at Nuevo Herald, at Knight Ridder, at Miami Herald (though I doubt she was staff, she's not that good). Apparently she can't hold a job down, she's been at five or six papers in three years. Why does anyone keep hiring her? She's done co-bylines with Plagiarizing Vanessa, does a lot of Lesbian/Gay reporting, and never fails to make the Cuban-American community look bad, always portraying them as 'hardliners' who supposedly hate the pope. She sees racism under every rock. She's obsessed with 'the Cuban Five' but not their victims like that innocent woman who was tricked into marrying one of them. She's written a lot about Elian and hateful stuff about the Cuban-American community there. She also seems obsessed with satellite transmissions, like TV Marti and other communications - perhaps something of interest to her Masters In Havana. Her political interests and orientation are NO SECRET, let alone her biases. You can tell exactly how she votes and who she associates with by how she writes. Her work has been picked up by terrorists sites like the eurotrash Rebelion, Marxism Messages, and castro's organs.

Great post Val, thanks bud.

Thanks for your comments over at my even-lowlier blog, I replied myself a few minutes ago.

I am far from a conspiracy theorist, but for anyone who doesn't think there is media bias against Cuban-Americans, Baro's article is proof positive that it is alive and well, even in "Alice in Wonderland".

Posted by: Robert at August 23, 2005 12:18 PM

Alice in wonderland?
Damn she hates us real bad.
I think Val is right .she got dumped by a Cuban guy and know she is living with pain and despair.
So go ahead take your frustration on us after all we could handle it, we know who we are
And were we stand.
We are Cubans, remember??? And we are number one.
.
In your face bitch.

It doesn't really matter if Madeline Baró Díaz is Cuban. If she were, she would not be the first self-hating Cuban to suck at the teat of the liberal establishment. What does matter is that because of her name and supposed "expertise" she will be presumed to be a Cuban by most readers, and as such credited with rare insights into the "real nature" of the Cuban-American community. That is probably the reason that she has been hired at so many media outlets despite her obvious incompetence and undisguised bias.

The only way for small minded little insignificant people to agrandize themselves is by belittling & attacking their betters.

Posted by: bynki at August 23, 2005 03:54 PM

I think she's on castro's payroll. I doubt there is a love interest. My bet is, she's on the take.
