Post Katrina Dial-up blogging
We made it through ok. No major damage to the house. Trees and branches everywhere. Still no power. Pool is full of foliage. And it's hot. My kingdom for air conditioning.
ManCamp survived with minor damage.
No word as to when power will be back up. Luckily my neighbor has his generator so we're powering our refrigerator through that.
Apparently, Katrina pulled a southerly turn and I think the eye was relatively close to us but Im not sure as we've had no tv since last night.
It's pouring rain right now and windy. Been working my ass off since early this morning and Im beat, but, I still have cold beer.
Im told the whole city is strewn with fallen trees and debris.
i hope all you guys in South Florida came through this thing unscathed. Ill try to log on sometime later today if I havent melted.
Hurricanes suck ass.

Welcome back to the land of the living.
It couldn't have been *too* bad an experience if you still have cold beer left).
Glad to hear you guys are all right.

I have no power or telephone service. Yard and pool are a total mess right now. Of course, I have to be at work so I can't clean up until who knows when.
The eye did move Southwest across Miami-Dade county, it passed right over FIU.

Glad you all are ok, and you still have the beer!

Hurray for ManCamp, and the Prieto household.
Our casita fared well, power came back on this morning, and just a few fallen trees. I did also hear that the eye was near FIU.
There is no such thing as a weak storm, that was proven last night.

Boca Raton is close to Deerfield Beach were they got hit pretty strong..

Hey you made The Situation Room on CNN at 4pm. They were looking for someone who wanted Hugo's head; then, the subject turned more important for them, the weather.
CNN said they would send you a portable air conditioner, but they gave it to someone less fortunate, since you lived in a canal home. It looked like Venice this morning.

Nice to hear that you guys are doing fine!

I'm glad everyone is safe!
Y'al were the first thing I thought of when I heard the news on the radio this morning, but not for the reason you think.
The radio-announcer mentioned the power outages in Florida due to the storm, then mentioned the government-induced power outages in southern California. I thought "Just like in Cuba!"
Which is not to say the governments in southern California are killing and torturing people with malice and forethought, but rather that both Cuba and the southern California electric system are ineffective artificially created and controlled economies.
Which is also to say that I had NO idea that just reading a nice blog by a good writer who says sweet things about his wife would eventually alter my world-view on a daily level (and my husband's, as he's not buying gas from Citgo).

Whew! Good to hear from Val & co.
Katrina was probably a walk in the park for you compared to Andrew of a few years back. Now it's time for barbequed breakfast, lunch, and dinner until the power comes back. :)

As a you ng girl, my daughter went through two hurricanes in a matter of about two weeks in North Carolina, one summer several years ago. Some debris got blown in through a window, and for years she was afraid of any bad weather reports, to the extent that at night during a storm she would sleep under her bed. I can only imagine what the sensitive kids in SoFla would be giong through with four storms last year, and already two important storms passing through as well.
