Mamoncillos!!!!!
Any of you guys out there away from the tropics remember these:

My neighborhood viandero had some yesterday, so I bought a bunch. It may be hot here in Miami and we may get nailed by hurricanes every so often, but living in the tropics does have its perks.

Are those limes or key limes?
My Mexican neighbors call limes "limones" and key limes "limones tequileros". I have no idea what they call lemons.

It's been years since I've seen those!! Sure can't find them here in Tallahassee. In Cuba we used to call them mamoncillos, but when I lived Puerto Rico, they were called quenepas (sp?). Remember walking on Isla Verde beach and finding them along the shoreline. Thanks for the memories.

Val I love those juicy fruits
Growing up in Cuba I remember when the mamoncillo season started.
It was a feast specially for the youngsters like us climbing the trees like monkeys to get to them..
I remember when my old man tough me how to make the champola.
Its not rocket science anyone could do it
sugar Get a lata de aluminio
Throw the manoncillos in there .{sin cascara por favor] 8 or 10
Ad several tablespoons of.
Get a clean bottle and star mashing gently the manoncillos and the sugar {make sure not to crack the semilla}
Does this in a circular motion until you get a nice pinkish texture
Add ice water revolve and enjoy..

Brought back fond memories of my last summer in Cuba, at Boca Ciega beach, where I learned what a mamoncillo was and how good it tasted.
