Chavez sends his best Katrina wishes

The quotes out of this morning's Miami Herald from Andres Oppenheimer's column - never mind his analysis - are stunning.

According to Oppenheimer, Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez had this to say about Hurricane Katrina:

``The North American empire may be mortally wounded, and hopefully it is mortally wounded.''

He added, ''Either this empire comes to an end, or the world will come to an end,'' according to the Bolivarian News Agency, Venezuela's official news service.

Chávez, who was speaking with Cuban dictator fidel castro at his side, repeated his theory that, as America slowly drowns in a political quagmire resulting from the ineffective government response to Katrina, the rise in world oil prices and the war in Iraq, the world is moving toward a ''socialism of the 21st century,'' where figures such as Cuba's castro will be the new political stars.

Are these the words of someone even remotely friendly?

I hate Chavez more than anyone except castro and I am still stunned by the thuggishness of the brute. These monsters have no bottom.

They are our enemies.

Huge-Oh should take a look at history. Funny how other dictators, in other times, have decreed "the end of America is near." Invariably, said dictators have wound up in the "dustbin of history." But Huge-Oh is in fact too obtuse to see that. And that is a good thing.
Stay tuned.
