Home Churches in Cuba Fear Ban

Reader Andy from Texas sent along a link to an article from Norway concerning new regulations which go into effect this month in Cuba, regulations which would severely hamper or prevent religious freedom in Cuba by imposing restrictions on worship in private homes. Many Protestant denominations in Cuba use these so-called "home churches" as places of worship for their congregations.

The article appeared in Forum 18, a Norwegian Christian web site dedicated to protecting religious freedoms worldwide. It obviously sees a problem with the "draconian new restrictions" Cuba is imposing on home churches.

Among the restrictions are the following:

- Two house churches of the same denomination may not exist within 1.2 miles
(2 km) of each other.

- Detailed information such as number of worshippers, days and times of
services, and names and ages of the inhabitants of the house are to be
provided to authorities.

- Once authorization is granted, authorities will supervise the operation of the
meetings.

- Prohibiting participation of all foreigners from churches in remote,
mountainous areas.

I wonder what the Pastors for Peace have to say about this?
