castro sticks his snout into Spain

The Iranians have an old saying: When the pot boils, the scum floats to the top. And so it is with castro, whose decided to take advantage of all the trouble in Spain to poke around.

The great Cuban writer, Carlos Alberto Montaner, who is now in Spain, writes something absolutely horrifying about the internal disintegration of Spain ever since Prime Minister Luis "bin Laden Got Me My Job" Rodriguez Zapatero showed up. It's an extraordinary essay about how creepy ethnic-communist groups have crawled out of the woodwork and are now threatening to break Spain apart and make it all communist. It's a must-read here.

But it gets worse. castro, as you may imagine, has begun snuffling around and is beginning to go into full-fledged interference mode. The 79-year-old psychopath is meddling into Spain's growing troubles like an evil old bruja. It's very bad news for Spain.

Today, the excellent Aleksander Boyd at VCrisis reports that the banned Basque Terrorist Party, ETA, has, all of a sudden, made common cause with thuggish barbudo and his oil-rich little buddy, Hugo Chavez. Alek has the photo of the gross campaign literature showing their mugs here.

This will present interesting problems for the pig-stupid Zapatero, who's done all he can to suck up to Chavez and castro.

Zapatero is in some kind of struggle with ETA, which keeps blowing up things, and in true weasel style, just keeps letting them as he strives to negotiate. Naturally, Spain's voters are getting alarmed at the state of their country. So now, Zapatero's problem, the ETA, has just made common cause the two creeps he's been courting' that he's just expended so much political capital on, castro and Chavez.

What a dilemma.

More ominously, the reality is: castro is now extending his meddling influence, not just into South America and the Caribbean, but deep into the heart of Europe, too.

castro is a power-mad monster. It's getting alarming.

When will the world wake up? castro has become EVERYONE'S problem.

Nothing really new. ETA headquarters have been in Havana for some time.

The FARC has a branch office in Havana. Evo and Daniel Ortega are frequent guest stars in Havana as well. The ETA as well? It's totally creepy.

Let these "smart and world-savvy" Euro-Peos now decide if they want Spain to be - once again - the "testing ground" for totalitarian agression...and as they respond, or not , to what happens in Spain, that will determine which way Europe goes - towards "getting it" and helping eliminate these evil players from the world stage, or towards a new chapter in Europe's sad history of appeasement.

All I know is: If Europe makes the wrong choices this time, I don't want to see a single cross erected in an American military cemetery, there or here, for the sake of once again saving these jaded have-beens from themselves.

Carlos Montaner needed to elaborate a bit more for the benefit of his foreign readers. He gives the impression that the Esquerra republicana in Catalunya have an armed branch like ETA. That's not the case. ERC are a bunch of earnest politically correct loons who fantasize about independence for Catalunya but hedge their bets with soverigenty association or a free state regime
Second, he glosses over the reform of the Estatut (the Statute- or state constitution in American jargon) After 25 years Catalans have concluded that the present one needs to be updated and its shortcomings corrected. The fight is not only about money but also the recuperation of certain historical rights that were abolished in 1714 under Felipe V.

Third, even if Spain decentralized into a federation (I support a federal monarchy for Spain) the abolition of the PM's office is utter crap. He doesn't tell his foreign readers that the presidents of each autonomy are also viceregents of the crown. So there's still a regional link to the Spanish crown.
Look it's perfectly legitmate for Montaner to prefer centralism but let's not sing that tired old song about the glories of Madrid's genius at governing the country.
He forgets that Spain achieved its greatest expansion and influence when it was decentralized and respected the constitutional obligations of each of the regions and territories.

I favour a federal monarchy for Spain, the less Madrid bosses around, the less tense the politics will be and the better off the country will be.
