Wilma Generator Blogging

This post brought to you by: the PowerBack 5250 Watt, 10 hp Electric Generator by DeVilbiss Air Power Company, Jackson, Tn.

Just a quick post to let everyone know we are alright. We survived Wilma relatively well. She came through sounding and blowing and rumbling like the proverbial freight train.

Right now, Im generator blogging from the back yard. Its been a hell of a day. Lost about 3/4 of my roof shingles, the flamboyam in the front of the house split in two. Lost a few of those huge Pine trees and ManCamp lost its tent. Spent all day chainsaw in hand and Im only about a quarter of the way through with all the felled trees.

Spoke to the parents, Amanda, George and pretty much most of the immediate family and we're all OK. A huge thanks to all those that were praying for us and emailed or commented wishing us luck. Apparently, it worked.

Ill try to get a little blogging in between the logging tomorrow. Right now, I just wanna pass out.

Yeah, Val! Very glad to see you back, the photos of Miami and Fort Lauderdale were scary, all that blown out glass! I'm glad you and yours are all ok.

I'm so glad to hear that you are all okay. Yeah!!! Now, do you get to use all that wood for pig roasting? On a more somber note, did you see the photos from Havana?

Glad you made it okay! Sorry about all the trees. :(

Every time you have a hurricane you're out there with the chainsaw - where are all these trees coming from, I'd think they'd all be gone by now.

Its back to the 50's 60's in Florida all over again when we used to have 1-2-3 hurricanes a year.
Only difference was most houses then were all concrete, did not have central AC, had terrazo floors, the interior walls did not melt when wet, the windows were either jalousie or small panels and if broken the whole window did not go, the roofs were a not so steep a pitch and were built up or flat concrete tiles over tonge and grove planks, no asphalt shingled, soffits were wood or stuccoed and insulation that caught and held water non-existent.
My next house will be underground or under a mound of dirt.

Val,
Good to hear that you are alright. Do keep that generator OUTSIDE the house. As you know, people who brought theirs indoors during the last storm, died from inhaling carbon monoxide.

Good to hear everything is Ok.

Good point, Cohetedude. Would be interesting how companies that make stone building materials are doing ion the stock market. When I was growing up in Florida in the 1960s, our house was made of stone.

Good news and I'm glad all you lost were a lot of roof tiles.
