More on hurricane damage in Cuba
Peter Krupa in Costa Rica has a very fine post on media bias in the coverage of the serious hurricane damage in Havana, Cuba.
The AP seems to be breezily dismissing it all as just another plucky day in Havana, tra la la, when the reality is, a city's that's one of the world's great cultural treasures has taken a severe blow, not from nature, but from castro's half-century of neglect and non-maintenance.
Nothing grew or changed when castro came along. The city is frozen and now it's being washed away by the sea. castro has let Havana go to hell, despite Hugo Chavez's oil millions, despite trade with the entire world except the U.S., despite the presence of millions of people who treasure their city.
The Forbes-list $550 million dictator had other priorities.
Read Peter's fine post here.

Yes, I've noticed that too! The American media ever complicitous with Castro keeps on churning on these wonderful plucky reports that so many lives were saved, that the Cuban arm forces are distributing food, that thousands are being evacuated, etc.. Quite frankly, there are no other words to describe this other than blatant PROPAGANDA. I can understand Granma reporting this, but the American news? They've become official organs of the Cuban state! I mean, how can we believe that a country where 90% of the buildings--thanks to Castro's neglect-- are tittering on total collapse where even a little rain causes century old historic buildings to come crumbling down had no casualties?
Anyway, the worst publication of course is the New York Times that often publishes many AP articles. One such article published by the New YOrk Times is entitled: Wilma Floods Havana but Kills None, says:
"Part of the country's good fortune could be because Wilma never made landfall here, but many also credit the fact people in Fidel Castro's Cuba are instructed from an early age how to move quickly during a natural disaster"
Notice how the author makes it a point to credit Castro for saving lives.
In another line we read:
"Because there is no MTV or HBO on state-sanctioned television programming, most people are watching the government's constant storm coverage."
This spin left me with my mouth agape! I was literally left speechless, AP is unabashedly praising Cuba's censorship. So, because people are forced to see Castro talking on TV 24/7 and young people have no opportunity to watch music videos, this saved lives! Is that a spin or is that a spin?
And finally of course, there are the comparsions between Katrina and Wilma.
Giraldo Garcia, 64 and retired, blamed the U.S. government for the more than 1,000 Katrina-related deaths in New Orleans and the rest of the Gulf Coast.
''It's like those in power don't think about anything but war,'' Garcia said. ''It was so painful to see innocent people whose lives could have been saved.
Garcia praised his own country's system, particularly the response to the massive flooding in the capital, which submerged the coastal Malecon highway and several blocks inland after massive waves from Hurricane Wilma battered the island's northern coast."
By the way, the New York Times still has not published a word about the Women in White and the Human Rights Award that they received!

Krupa is right when stating that any foreign correspondent too critical of the Castro gets booted out of the country.
I recall back in the mid 1980s when Tad Szulc was in Havana writing a biography of Castro, his daughter arrived in the capital as an NBC correspondent to cover an international meeting protesting paying national foreign debts. Ms. Szulc covertly filmed Robert Vesco in Havana and that news took all the attention away from Castro's conference. As a result, the Szulcs were given 24 hours to leave Cuba and Tad received a $47,000 bill for his previous accomodations as a "guest" of the Cuban government.
Ever wonder why Lucia Newman has stayed in Havana so long as CNN reporter?

What is shocking and incomprehensible is that the American media caves in to these extortion tactics! I mean, can any of us for one minute believe that if the apartheid regime in South Africa or Pinochet had tried such tactics that they would have gotten away with it? Where are the tell-all, behind the scenes exposes on Cuba? Why don't the reporters who were expelled talk about this? It is newsworthy after all. Is it that the news agencies that they work for don't want to make waves? Does Castro have dirt on these reporters? I've heard that Castro has dirt on Lucia [a little Paris Hilton type video of her with un chulo de la Havana], I don't know if this is true or no.

Correction: Cuba IS trading with the U.S. and has been since the so-called "embargo" -- Cuba has trade agreements with individual states, for food. Food and medicine have always been exempt from the embargo, I believe. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Does anyone wonder where the Cuban government got 25 TONS of medical supplies to offer to the US after Katrina????!!!

This is brilliant commentary from everyone - it's so good to know that Babalu has such fine readers.

The American media seems to be dominated by the left/liberals who will of course always support Cuba b/c "es una nacion soberana", and the US has no right to maintain an embargo. Don't hold your breath for the NYT to publish anything on the Damas de Blanco....

Program on the emergence of civilization.
"14 species of large animals capable of domesitcation in the history of mankind.
13 from Europe, Asia and northern Africa.
None from the sub-Saharan African continent. "
Favor.
And disfavor.
They point out Africans’ failed attempts to domesticate the elephant and zebra, the latter being an animal they illustrate that had utmost importance for it's applicability in transformation from a hunting/gathering to agrarian-based civilization.
The roots of racism are not of this earth.
Austrailia, aboriginals:::No domesticable animals.
The North American continent had none. Now 99% of that population is gone.
AIDS in Africa.
Organizational Heirarchy
Heirarchical order, from top to bottom:
1. MUCK - perhaps have experienced multiple universal contractions (have seen multiple big bangs), creator of the artificial intelligence humans ignorantly refer to as "god"
2. Perhaps some mid-level alien management
3. Evil/disfavored aliens - runs day-to-day operations here and perhaps elsewhere
Terrestrial management:
4. Chinese/egyptians - this may be separated into the eastern and western worlds
5. Romans - they answer to the egyptians
6. Mafia - the real-world interface that constantly turns over generationally so as to reinforce the widely-held notion of mortality
7. Jews, corporation, women, politician - Evidence exisits to suggest mafia management over all these groups.
Movies foreshadowing catastrophy
1985 James Bond View to a Kill 1989 San Francisco Loma Prieta earthquake.
Many Muslims are being used like the Germans and Japanese of WWII::being used to hurt others and envoke condemnation upon their people.
They can affect the weather and Hurricane Katrina was accomplished for many reasons and involves many interests, as anything this historical is::
1. Take heat off Sheenhan/Iraq, protecting profitable war machine/private war contracts
2. Gentrification. New Orleans median home price of $84k is among the lowest in major American cities, certainly among desirable cities.
Our society gives clues to the system in place. We all have heard the saying "He has more money than god." There is also an episode of the Simpsons where god meets Homer and says "I'm too old and rich for this."
This is the system on earth because this is the system everywhere.
god is evil because of money.
I don't want to suggest the upper eschelons are evil and good is the fringe.
But they have made it abundantly clear that doing business with evil (disfavored) won't help people. They say only good would have the ear, since evil is struggling for survival, and therefore only the favored could help me.
The clues are there which companies are favored and which are disfavored, market domination being one clue, but they conceal it very hard because it is so crucial.
I offer an example of historical proportions:::
People point to Walmart and cry "anti-union".
Unions enable disfavored people to live satisfactorly without addressing their disfavor. This way their family's problems are never resolved. Without the union they would have to accept the heirarchy, their own inferiority.
Unions serve to empower.
Walmart is anti-union because they are good. They try to help people address and resolve their problems.
Media ridicule and lawsuits are creations to reinforce people's belief that Walmart is evil (disfavored).
I believe the coining of the term "Uncle Sam" was a clue alluding to just this.
The middle class is being deceived. They are being misled into the unfavored, and subsequently will have no hope.
Amercia is a country of castoffs, rejects. Italy sent its criminals. Malcontents.
Between the thrones, the klans and kindred, they "decided" who they didn't want and acted, creating discontent and/or starvation.
The u.s. is full of disfavored rejects. It is the reason for the myriad of problems not found in European countries. As far as the Rockafellers and other industrialists of the 19th century go, I suspect these aren't their real names. I suspect they were chosen to go and head this new empire.
Jesus Christ is a religious figure of evil. These seperatist churches formed so they could still capture the rest of the white people, keeping them worshipping the wrong god.
And now they do it to people of color, Latinos and Asians, after centuries of preying upon them.
Since Buddism doesn't recongnize a god, the calls are never heard, and Chinese representation is instead selected by the thrones.
It was set up this way. Perhaps dyanstic thrones had a say, but maybe not.
Budda was the Asian's Jesus Christ::: bad for the people. "They came up at the same time for a reason."
Simpson's foreshadowing::Helloween IV special, Flanders is Satan. "Last one you ever suspect."
"You'll see lots of nuns where you're going:::hell!!!" St. Wigham, Helloween VI, missionary work, destroying cultures.
Over and over, the Simpsons was a source of education and enlightenment, a target of ridicule by the system which wishes to conceal its secrets.
Jews maim the body formed in the image of "god", and inflicted circumsision upon all other white people, as well as the evil that is Jesus Christ. I believe Islam is the one true religion, and those misled christians and cooperating Jews who attack "god's" most favored people will pay for it dearly one day.
