No-Power Blogging
A brief glimpse of my life at the moment.
OK, so you have all read where I still have no electricity at the house. You've read about the generator adventures, the search for gas and propane. You've read about the "I cant stand the heat let me go outside" and the "I cant stand the generator noise let me go inside" ritual. You read about the tree and stump cuttings (more pictures to follow). Add to that all the other inconveniences such as no traffic lights and Miami drivers, the search for the ever illusive Champion RJ17LM spark plug, closed supermarkets, Home Depot visits, ManCamp's devastation...etc...
But let me give you one little bit of information that in and of itself is but a nuisance, but added to all of the above, plus all the other "little inconveniences," makes you just want to scream at the tops of your lungs.
We have been unable to do laundry for almost two weeks now. Laundromats have two, three hour waits just for one pair of machines. Laundry services have a two week backlog. Since we missed a whole week of work, we are getting home pretty late and since we are having trouble sleeping at night, we're usually exhausted at the end of the day. Too exhausted to pack all the clothes and head out to a packed laundromat. What does this mean, you ask?
It means I am at the very back, at the very bottom of my underwear drawer. In the back-up, emergency underwear section. The old ones. The ones I havent worn in years. Since I was much, much thinner and had much much less of an...ummm...waist. Yes, folks, I am wearing the dreaded tight ones. And theyre stretched to the modulus of elasticity.
Think my situation isnt so bad? Walk a mile in my underwear, my brother, then let me know how you feel at the end of the day. I guarantee you'll be singing soprano.

Val:
Seriously, you and your wife are welcome to do laundry at our house (north Grove). Drop me a line at our email address: branteva[at]mindspring[dot]com, and I will give you a telephone number to call.

Amanda may up to something: I think you like the tight unmentionables. Next thing we know you'll be on Hollywood Beach wearing a Speedo.

C'mon. If South Fl was REALLY without power for a week, why aren't I seeing it on the evening news? Where's the looting? Where's the cannibalism? Is Madonna also wearing dirty underwear?

Dude...you have soap...you have a bucket...you have a wife with two strong arms and nothing better to do...how did you end up in this state?

Just do what I do when I run out of clean clothes. Run to Wal-Mart and buy a weeks worth for $50.

Val,
After reading all the comments, I'm starting to think you really like those tight undies!

Time to go commando Val. Hey, did you get the ice I mailed to you? Not sure how slow the postman is under these conditions.
Oh, what's this shit about the "Navy" amigo? And here I thought you were soldier material ; )

conductor has the right idea. If the Walmart is open, go buy some new stuff, and toss out the old, circulation-cutting ones. Time to rotate the emergency stock.
