Looting in Havana after Wilma
B-b-b-but fidel - I thought looting was a capitalist phenomenon. I thought your New Socialist Man had no desire for material goods after communist indoctrination and reeducation. 'Each according to his ability each according to his needs' and all that. No more man's inhumanity to man. To be rich is evil. Just, you know, sharing. I thought looting was - as you said - proof of the failure of the capitalist way of life. I thought you told us so! /s
Turns out looting of course is more rampant in an atomized, socially shattered society like castro's Cuba, where more people have their roots, families and identities destroyed in the name of communism than in an intact capitalist society where everyone has equal opportunity. Not only that, the government has no regard for private property so there's no reason for the people to have any, either. Add to that the fact that the castroite goverment has robbed them of everything they own, has no accountability whatever and all that's left is every man for himself. No surprise that looting has appeared in the power void of the fearsome hurricane damage in Havana. A lot of it looks targeted at the dollar-stores where the tourists and party elite can shop but not the real Cubans. It's probably pretty bad looting.
Cubanet has the story here.

It is further proof of castro's miserable failure. If he ran a proper communist state, there would be nothing left to steal.
