You are so evil. Guns are so evil. You have to talk to the thieves and find out what trauma in their childhood led them to become criminals. Then you let them go. You are so bad. The second amendment is evil.

P.S., where can I get one?

Gun control is all about hitting the target dead-n-square, with every pull of the trigger...one shot, one kill.

Good choice!

Val & George,
The old Cubanism used to be: "el que tenga miedo, que se compre un perro" (roughly, let he who is afraid... get himself a dog).
I guess now we have to change it to: el que tenga miedo, que se compre una 9mm hollowpoint dispenser!
I hope you take a handgun handling course from an expert, so we don't have to read about you accidentally firing one (or more!) of those hollowpoints into your foot, Val!

Rosy O'Donald would be ashamed, but who gives a shit about what she thinks? I'm jealous.

I once knew a man who was an American soldier in Italy during WWII. He told the story of how he was surprised by a German soldier - the German shot him three times with a 9mm Luger. The American got up and shot the German once with his Colt M1911 .45 - fight over.

And for those who liked Scott's quote...

Juan,

I too love the old colts .45s. Unfortunately, they tend to have a major kickback and the wife wouldnt be able to handle it. The P9 is hers.

Posted by: Val Prieto at November 14, 2005 10:43 AM

Val,
Good to hear that. Now we can stop thinking of you as a sissified "girlie-man," as Ah-nold might say.
As for me, give me a .357 Magnum revolver each and every time. Never misfires, and it has a hell of a kick, but, oh, that *fantastic* stopping power. Usually, one shot ends the argument.
And if you choose the model with the extra long barrel, all you have to do is show it. Most times, you won't even need to fire it.

Juan Paxety brings up a good point. And gives me an "opening" for a little anecdote. Years ago I worked with a veteran of the US 84th Infantry Division. He was modest, and not prone to talk too much about his wartime experiences. After he passed away, much too young, my wife and I stayed in touch with his mother and helped her out.

She asked me to sell a pistol for her once, a Polish Radom, which I did. We started talking about guns, protection, and the need to know how to handle a firearm properly. The conversation led to reminiscing about her son, and then she told me a war story: "Somewhere in Germany, John spotted a sniper who was perched up on a tree, near a riverbank...across the river there were some American officers which the sniper was drawing a bead on; John took aim with his .45, from maybe about 25 yards, and hit him; the body fell from the tree into the river and was carried off by the current. John was summoned to speak to his CO later, and was congratulated on his excellent shooting. 'We have to thank your father for teaching you to shoot so well, no doubt.' 'No sir,' answered John - 'it was my mom...you see, as a kid, when we were livin' in Texas, she and I used to go out into the desert, and practice shootin' rattlesnakes with Colt revolvers.'"

She was one hell of a lady! And knew her artillery well.

YAMY, I can see why the idea of a gun might be bad to you since that's what the media always drones: guns = bad, blah blah blah. But really, a gun is just a tool. In the hands of law abiding citizens, it's a tool that reduces crime. If ever there comes a time when Mrs. Prieto has to face a 250-lb. thug intent on harming her, this pistol gives her a way better chance of winning the fight than screaming & clawing would.

Val, I'm looking forward to the stories of the Mrs. whupping your marksmanship skillz at the shooting range. :)

I had two friends and a cousin of mine that used to own a gun and three different occasions, three different situation since Alcohol was involved now they are GONE, and I really don't want to tell you the stories, they are sad. Don't take it wrong, but, please be careful.

God bless my Smith & Wesson! I do live in Texas, after all.

Julio - I second your thoughts on .357 magnums. Mine is a Ruger. I also keep a 12-gauge Wingmaster handy. My theory is that the sound of "snick-snick" in the night will send an instruder running for a place to poop.

I'm sorry to hear that about your friends & family, Yamy. :( Alcohol & guns are a deadly mix, just like drinking & driving. And I agree with you that we must be careful because owning firearms is a responsibility not a license to act recklessly.

nice choice.

Well, you COULD call it your dog; nasty bark and a worse bite...

And may I recommend Gold Dot hollowpoints for the serious social work?

Posted by: Mark at November 15, 2005 09:31 AM

Of course, some of us who are given to extremes, prefer the 7.92 mm MG-42...unique sound, quick-n-easy barrel change, excellent at crowd dispersal.
Just not that easy to conceal.

And then there's the 7.62 minigun...round-n-round it goes!

Posted by: Alberto Quiroga at November 15, 2005 12:56 PM

The Kahr is truly a gold-standard in compact semi-auto pistols. Great choice, sir!

To the various and sundry posters who've preceeded me here with their concerns, let me hasten to advise you that:

1. Val and his lovely bride are no strangers to the shooting arts.

2. The foremost safety device ever incorporated into any firearm is the Human Brain. Neither Val nor his wife are lacking in this regard.

3. The ownership of such a weapon for defensive purposes is predicated upon the owner having the proper mindset to practice with, and if necessary, use the arm in the required manner. I believe that Mr. & Mrs. Prieto possesses these qualities, and that in surplus to the demand.

4. A well-placed (into the Goblin's owie-zone)9mm round beats a ballistically superior .357 mag, .40 S&W or .45 ACP round which might miss if the shooter fears the recoil, every time.

5.. I'll be really pissed if they don't take me to the range if I ever get to visit.

Great buy, my friend. Keep 'em in the 10x ring!

I love my P9 too. the only thing that comes close to a complaint is the trigger pull and reset is a little long. It also has some overtravel. But if you are looking for a slim, light accurate dependable 9mm this is it. It is the subcompact that glock did not have the ability to make. I love my glock I love my Kahr.
