A simple observation

I mentioned this earlier today at KillCastro, but, has anyone else noticed how last week, right after the US Interests Section in Havana put up the news ticker and fidel castro went absolutely ape shit and began the construction of whatever it was he was building that had to absolutely be finished by this past Saturday and wasnt finished in time, the MSM was all over the story?

And how today, the Monday after the much heralded construction didnt get finished so fidel is playing it low key there isnt even a mention, not so much as a tiny little iota of a peep about it in the MSM?

Nada. Zero. Zilch. Nicojones.

Does anyone else think that it's because if fidel castro doesnt open his mouth the MSM couldnt care less about Cuba?

I do.

If you must have proof, let's just wait til the damn thing is built and fidel castro needs the publicity. Then we'll see the gallant members of the MSM coming out of the woodwork and reporting the story, ad nauseum.

I do too. Fidel says jump and the MSM says how high

I think it's a fine thing.

The press reinforcement of Fidel's increases in blood pressure should be a very good trend, in the long run. Every time the old fart gets mad, there's a little better chance of something going pop in his black, withered heart.

Val, EFE is saying that dozens of flagpoles were already installed this weekend, confirming what we had said last Thrursday.

This whole things reminds me of the opening scene in 2001, when the apes find the monololith, and start jumping up and down and hootin' and hollerin' and banging bones on the ground.

One day a news ticker shows up on a building, and the news media is jumping up and down, hootin' and hollerin', and castro's thugs start banging bones on the ground.

Things haven't changed much.

According to my sources, the whole weekend was a lull in the site, apparently because by Friday night they hadn't finished installing those flagpoles. They are working today, and the amount of workers on site has been drastically reduced. The effectist part of the stunt was doomed, once the momentum was lost after the moods at the jobsite stalled. We need to say that kagasstro lost the psychological part of it, and therefore, the "coup d'effet" was also lost. He came out as a loser, and that what counts!

It was widely reported that Castro was attempting to "block" the message board. That's probably why he shut up about the whole thing now that he knows blocking it is going to give him bad press. Sandalistas were criticizing Reuters and El Nuevo Herald for reporting that the flags intended to block the messages. See Aviewtothsouth.blogspot.com, for example.

Excellent observation, Val. This is a textbook case of media suckupery and none of the suckup Havana correspondents beholden to castro should be taken seriously.
