Just exercising my right to free expression...

mo.jpg

A note to some commenters: Those of us in the blogosphere who put up these images are just making the simple point that we have a right to do so under our laws. That's all. When we cease to act, when we cease to speak our minds -- in whatever manner short of criminal violence and anarchy -- because of one group, then all of our rights will wither on the vine. That is the message the West has to drum into its thick head before it's too late.

I am not fanning any more flames than have already been fanned. And I'll remind you that our country was founded by iconoclastic, miscreants who were traitors to the Crown of England. Tom Paine, for one, loved to tweak the authorities and the folks loyal to the Crown with his pamphlets. And in the country of my birth, José Martí's writings pissed off a generation of Spanish leaders, the Colonial administrators, and the Crown of Spain.

Would you have told them to shut up?

Update: Looks like some intrepid reporter was exercising his right to free speech in Egypt back in October 2005.

Right of free expression = fucking bigotry. You may never find out but the fuss is not about a cartoon or even a religion at all but the growth of the seed planted on 9/11 which has grown to cast a shade on the end of colonialism turned imperialism and the societies which benefit from the rape of those of long suffering but now pushing back.

George

It appears that you are willing refusing to see how you, according the precendent established by Holmes, are engaged in nothing less than malicious incitement.

Your attempt to align yourself with Paine and Martí is troubling especially given your apparent lack of knowledge about Tom Paine. After the successful triumph of revolution in this country he left for France to arrive in time for that country's own revolution. He saw how irresponsible actions can cause a lot of unnecessary conflict.

I would think that the expressions of your freedoms (no one is saying you are not free to do so) is more akin to those of Marat, not Paine.

Freedom ain't free.

Posted by: MTF at February 8, 2006 03:26 PM

MTF, you're brain has been decommissioned by politically correct thinking. I think that is obvious for all to see. Respond to this cross-post I left you on the other page:

"Jesus necking with Mary Magdalena"? Have you heard of a little book called The Da Vinci Code that publishes the blasphemy that Jesus and the Magdalene married? Or PissChrist where a crucifix with Jesus was dunked in a clear beaker of urine and passed off as "art"? Or the Madonna made of dung, another great "art" work? Is that America?

Whose leg are you pulling here, dude?

I'll make a deal: stop all of the degenerate anti-Christian, anti-Jewish art, writings, cartoons, etc. and I'll agree not post Moh's cartoons. Deal?

Posted by: George L. Moneo at February 8, 2006 03:30 PM

Anyone else notice how Pocho states:

"Right of free expression=fucking bigotry" while he, himself, is expressing himself freely?

Posted by: Val Prieto at February 8, 2006 03:38 PM

I've decided these useful idiots are not human, but alien mutants hatched from pods, similar to those seen in the "Invasion of The Body Snatchers". There is no other explanation for so much stupidity or the fact that they all sound alike. They are cloned, no doubt emerging from the swamps in the everglades.

Is that an advertisement for hajj season? "Fly to Mecca, have a BLAST!"

Posted by: Alberto Quiroga at February 8, 2006 04:05 PM

Guys,

Its all about their (the useful idiot trolls)hidden agenda. The destruction of democracy and freedom as we know it.

Some of them have been told the same lies over and over again (by the MSM, hollywood, the Michael Moore types and leftist professors) to the point that it becomes truth for them.

Their biggest enemy, the United States and all its stands for.

How else can you explain a statement like the one Val pointed out? "Right of free expression=fucking bigotry"

Posted by: Max at February 8, 2006 04:05 PM

Hey Pocho, FOAD. That's my free expression!

Posted by: Ed at February 8, 2006 04:17 PM

But why do they keep coming here? At this point they should know by heart that they are not changing our minds, period. That we will not stop our campaign, that they rants and raves only make us stronger. Are they that far gone into their agenda to see this?

George, se te olvido Last Temptation of Christ...I don't remember any Christians threatening to kill anyone, just boycotted and denounced the film.

Ziva LOL with the Pod theory! I'm still laughing!

Posted by: La Ventanita at February 8, 2006 04:22 PM

Ventanita,

Great question. Either they are real stupid, hooked on the "Kool aid" or like getting hammered? Who the hell knows?

There are some of them that have good intentions (hard to believe) but are so brainwashed.

Those are the ones that I hold out (slight) hope for.

Posted by: Max at February 8, 2006 05:28 PM

Actually, I've been posting the pictures with the express intent of tweaking the inflamed sensibilities of these savages. I am in no way obligated to be considerate of those who would slaughter me and mine.

Posted by: aelfheld at February 8, 2006 05:29 PM

If images of Mohammed are forbidden, then how does anyone know what he looked like? And if nobody can know what he looked like, then how can these cartoons possibly be images of Mohammed?

Let's face it, folks, the Moslems are rioting because they want to riot, period. Cartoons aren't the reason for rioting, they are the excuse for rioting, just like when Beavis and Butthead in Paris went to hide in a sub-station (No offense meant to the real Beavis and Butthead).

Posted by: Scott at February 8, 2006 06:07 PM

"Those of us in the blogosphere who put up these images are just making the simple point that we have a right to do so under our laws."

No, you are just trying to indirectly insult muslims under the veil of free speech. Why else would you post it? We know what our rights are. They don't. Insulting their god doesn't prove any point and just proves we have a right to be disrespectful too, which you have accomplished loud and clear.

Posted by: Fielding at February 8, 2006 07:05 PM

Fielding, they've lived in the West long enough to know. If they don't like it, they can leave. It's that simple. Any comments about "PissChrist" or the manure Madonna, Fielding? Or is it that those abominations don't count because they're Christian symbols? You are a hypocrite and an enabler of these terrorists.

Posted by: George L. Moneo at February 8, 2006 08:13 PM

Publishing the images of Big Mo is an exercise in exposing hypocrisy. The muslim world publishes offensive anti-Semitic cartoons with abandon and calls the Jews "pigs" and "dogs" on Arabic television and they are the ones demanding religious tolerance? Islamists massacre schoolchildren and behead little girls and they demand respect for their prophet? Please. When Saudi Arabia builds its first Catholic church, then I will take them seriously.

Posted by: inmypajamas at February 8, 2006 08:25 PM

Couldn't have said it any better myself...

Posted by: George L. Moneo at February 8, 2006 09:11 PM

BTW, Fielding, Mohammed is their prophet, not their God.

Posted by: George L. Moneo at February 8, 2006 09:47 PM

"BTW, Fielding, Mohammed is their prophet, not their God"

I have no interest in the details of the religion. I suppose I'm on the "behead" list. Fine, points taken. But for sure some are doing it for exactly inmypajamas points out: "They" did it, why can't we?

Posted by: Fielding at February 9, 2006 12:16 AM

Have you noticed how fanatics and totalitarians are totally lacking a sense of humor? That is actually a good litmus-test to use when "doing your discovery and due diligence" come voting season...show me a humorless politician or "activist" and I'll show you someone who oughta be duct-taped tightly, for the good of mankind.

Scott said something about beavis and butthead...well...these people talk like the hippie teacher-

Posted by: nurian at February 9, 2006 10:03 AM

Fielding, you said

I have no interest in the details of the religion. I suppose I'm on the "behead" list. Fine, points taken. But for sure some are doing it for exactly inmypajamas points out: "They" did it, why can't we?

The "details" are precisely why these people are rioting and burning and killing!

As for you implying that I posted the cartoon just because others are doing it, well, you just don't get it: We are posting the cartoons because we have a right to. That is the only reason. They have a completely legitimate right to get pissed off, and protest peacefully; BUT they do not have the right to impose their belief on me (i.e., acquiescing by silence) by extorting me with violence, or the threat of it. PERIOD. We'll keep doing this until they get the message. We can disagree with each other, maybe even hate each other and never talk, but we do not riot in the streets and commit heinous acts on one another.

Posted by: George L. Moneo at February 9, 2006 10:05 AM

"you are just trying to indirectly insult muslims under the veil of free speech."

For a moment, let's suppose that the subject is freedom of religion instead of freedom of speech. Let´s also suppose I went to mess last sunday.

In terms of freedom of religion I went there because I can. Why a catholic church instead of a baptist one or a buddhist temple is an irrelevant issue. In any case, is a personal issue and not subject to anyone's examination.

In Fielding's terms I went to a christian church on purpose to indirectly piss off muslims, hiding behind freedom of religion...

So, freedom of religion as long as it doesn't offend muslims?

Posted by: ArgentineDissident at February 9, 2006 11:33 AM

George,

We can agree on one thing, you certainly have the right, and I would never argue that. It doesn't hurt to be considerate either.

Argentinedissident,

You miss my point. All I'm saying is, people don't like the cartoons. Why post it? That's all. If muslims in the US are offended by people choosing other religions, they are free to move back to their country of origen. That's a whole other topic.

Posted by: Fielding at February 9, 2006 11:54 AM

They can start being considerate too. They can start by not blowing up women and children and beheading innocent civilians in the name of their religion.

Posted by: George L. Moneo at February 9, 2006 12:03 PM

As for them moving back, I don't see much of that going on. What I do see is a determined attempt on the part of Islam's mouthpieces to stifle any criticism of Islam in the West. Take your blinders off, Fielding. I know you're trying to be a nice guy, but remember what Leo Durocher said.

Posted by: George L. Moneo at February 9, 2006 12:06 PM

Fielding,
You are missing the point: Why NOT posting it? Or is it that the measure stick to print something or not is whether people like it or not?

I assume then that anything someone somewhere may not like shouldn't be posted?

If I draw a catholic priest molesting a child I'm pretty sure someone will dislike it, mainly catholic priests. So I shouldn't post it, right?

Posted by: ArgentineDissident at February 9, 2006 01:55 PM

"you are just trying to indirectly insult muslims under the veil of free speech."

Nobody deserves to be insulted gratuitously, but these folks are just plain asking for it.

The poor and down-trodden of the middle east have been long suffering and now they are pushing back? Is that what you said? Well, I am all in favor of pushing. Perhaps they should try pushing back where it will do some good. Here are a few things the average middle eastern citizen can do to make their life better. Ignore what the evil infidels are doing in Europe or America and start pushing! Pushing the theocracy out of control of your country. Push for some real education in your country with schools other than the madras that teaches only fundementalist Islam hatred and violence against Jews, Christians, or any religion other than Islam. Push for rights for women. Push for rights for non-Muslims. Push for due process for all citizens of your country no matter what race color or creed they are. Push for infrastructure development and for some real world training for those who maintain it. Push for bringing your country's standard of living into alignment with the rest of us in the 21st. century. Push for a way to solve a couple of your problems without resorting to violence. Like the foul barbudo in Cuba and Fox in Mexico all I see is you pushing the blame for your country's internal problems onto someone else. If you can't do these few basic things, push off! Pocho, you are an idiot.

Posted by: dwimmerlaik at February 9, 2006 04:19 PM

I encourage anyone who thinks like Pocho or Poncho or whatever his/her name was to be upfront about their beliefs. I think it says quite a lot when they openly admit to being against freedom of expression. Stalin, Castro, Hitler, Mao, Trujillo, Ho, Suharto, Pol Pot, Amin, Mengistu, Khoemini, S. Hussein, Bashir, Lenin, Ceausescu, Noriega, Franco, and bin Laden would be proud of you, Poncho.

Until Muslims overwhelmingly oppose terrorism in Islam's name, the cartoons are quite accurate depictions of the mantras of the faith. Sorry, truth hurts.

Posted by: Dax at February 9, 2006 05:10 PM

Though I can't say I'm an expert, I can say that I spent an impressionable amount of time in the Middle East. And I've kept clear off the Arab topic because the majority of Moslems that I met in the PNA, Jordan, and so on were not the violent Moslems that we saw on TV. Unfortunately, after 9/11 it was Bin Ladin (and NOT BUSH) who gave the worst possible stigma to the Moslem people: that they are a violent and extremist people.

Many Moslems resent this stigma, and thus when Mohammed is depicted with a bomb, in their eyes it promulgates the stigma. Obviously, they would get upset, and any terrorist with castro like ambitions to rule can easily feed off the fear/anger of the people. Evil people like Achmed Abu Laban.

I have to agree with Scott when he says, "If images of Mohammed are forbidden, then how does anyone know what he looked like? And if nobody can know what he looked like, then how can these cartoons possibly be images of Mohammed?"

No where in the Middle East are there images of Mohammed, or images PERIOD in any Mosque ANYWHERE. Thus, someone had to tell the people that this was not only Mohammed, but some sort of "western propaganda" against arabs in order to get them rioting.

The result?

Abu Laban, some nobody imam with illusions of grandure, takes advantage of his own people, and not only promolgates certain images, but spices it up with some fake ones to get the people going.

This isn't about (British) Colonialism turned to (American) "Imperialism", and the "suffering" third world revolting against the "rapist" G8 countries. -Pocho, I probably know this kind of spin better than you do, and I'm sorry but it's BULLSHIT. BTW I'm also willing to bet that you live in one of the G8 countries anyhow.

This about assholes who want power, control, and wealth. Assholes who are willing to F*ck over their own people in order to get it. Assholes like Saddam, Bin Laden, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, fidel f*cking castro, and now Abu Laden.

Distorted interpretations of Religion, false ideology, fear, anger and hatred are used as weapons against our most basic rights. We have the right to publish these images, and that should never be the point of the argument. Rather, Abu Laden does not have the right to use these images to manipulate people towards violence, and if the likes of Pocho cannot realize this then these kind of people have forfitted they're God given right to think clearly.

Evil is evil and Abu Laden has just sealed himself as such. He, and those like him, are the problem: not moslem people nor the USA.
