Supporters of fidel castro's regime always cite the 100% literacy and free education thing when trying to convince us - and themselves - how great the revolution is. Yet this is just another misrepresentation from fidel castro's propaganda machine.
The Real Cuba has photos of a typical Cuban student's file - more like a dossier really - that prove that education in Cuba isnt free. Cubans pay a high price for their and their children's education: their dignity.
Every student and every student's parent is forced to belong to one or more revolutionary political organ. Failure to become a member at any one of these will be noted on said dossier and will prevent the student from seeking higher education.

The Real Cuba has the details of the above picture here.

Castro regime supporters are quick to mention that in Cuba, every child receives a free education. Well, that so-called “free” education comes with a high price.

Val;
That is good information. I saw the post this weekend on The Real Cuba and I guess I didn't read it close enough. I didn't know that the "price" for this "free" education was so high. I am sure the American general public is not aware (or do not understand) this...

Same method of "education" the nazis used in Germany, and the Kubans ape the nazis even in the type of dossier or document used to record the "educational" achievements of their child victims - because that is what they are.
kaSStro even banned the Boy Scouts from Cuba in 1961 - hell, they were teaching children (I was a proud Cub Scout for about a year) love of God and country, good citizenship, respect, skills, manual and mental, good social behavior, etc etc. Can't have that in kaSStroland, you know! It gets in the way of control...
This is exactly the kind of system our parents saved us from, when they made the decision to get me, my sister, themselves out of the island in 1960. My mother went ballistic at the thought such a "government" would "educate" her children and take away her right to raise them as she saw fit. As indeed happened shortly afterwards.
Every time some loon-troll or kaSStro-loving hypocrite politician lauds Cuba's "educational" system, they oughta be packed off to the island to experience it for at least a year. Like a Cuban.

See this good article from Carlos Alberto Montaner's site, about Edison School in Havana - it is in Spanish, but is an excellent piece about one outstanding school in pre-kaSStro Kuba, about which a book has been written. This is for those who want a glimpse of the excellent education available then - at Edison and many other schools, such as Baldor, Escuelas Pias, Hermanos Maristas, Belen, LaSalle, Dominicas Francesas, and too many others to mention. All places of education, not indoctrination.
