Does her brain belong to castro?
Longtime Babalu readers probably remember the Hilda Molina story from previous posts, here and here. It's not often that the truth about life in Cuba finds its way onto the pages of America's newspapers. Today's Chicago Tribune has a story by Gary Marx that exposes the repressive tactics castro uses to control citizens of Cuba, including a ridiculous assertion that a citizens brain is the patrimony of the state. That's one of the reasons officials gave Ms. Molina for denying her permission to visit her son and grandchildren in Argentina.
Daniel Wilkinson, a lawyer for Human Rights Watch, says that Cuba's refusal to allow Molina to visit Argentina violates international law.
"The idea of people who are educated by the state having an obligation to contribute to society is perfectly sensible," said Wilkinson, "But this is an extreme measure that undermines the right of people to leave any country including their own. It is one of the most effective tools Cuban authorities have for intimidating people critical of the government."

Gary Marx has been hitting it out of the park lately. Now about the substance of the article and what it really means. If you read the excerpt that quotes Daniel Wilkinson he says "The idea of people who are educated by the state having an obligation to contribute to society is perfectly sensible..."
But I thought nobody would ever want to leave the worker's paradise? If Cuba were really a just society then they wouldn't have to worry about brain drain. All the world's brains would be attracted to Cuba like a moths to a flame.
The fact is that they aren't keeping her from leaving because of of "brain drain". They have already ostracized her and she is no longer of any value to the robolucion. She's being kept there as an example to others not to mess with cagastro.

A dismal thought it seems the brains of each country will belong to Humala, Chavez, Morales,
as well as Castro yetch.....
It is clear that Ollanta Humala the communist (let us not use euphemisms) will gain control of Peru in the run
off elections. For it seems that the incompetent APRA candidate Alan Garcia was the spoiler for Lourdes Flores.
This is because Hugo Chavez has and will give Humala more monies than Croesus and "Venezuela's Minister of
Elections Jorge Rodriguez, architect of many diddled electoral "victories" of Hugo Chavez" guided Humala to
this win and will do the same by hook or by crook in the run off election. Once again APRA diddles Peru. If I
were a Peruvian I would sell all I had and go to Miami right now.
