If you support the regime, then you are a fellow traveler. I am not talking about being against the "embargo" or "travel restrictions," because those are just red herrings; I mean supporting the regime by parroting their propaganda, like these folks have done. They are shameful.

Anytime I read "professor" claiming to be an authority on Cuban affairs, I run. For every detestable name on the list, there are THOUSANDS of other names of people who REALLY know what's going on.

I recognize two names. One, Ricardo Gonzales, I met once in Madison where my son attended university. This was several years ago. At the time, I was almost convinced that the embargo was a failed policy. I should have suspected that there is a strong link between the castro regime and liberal forces in Madison. Chalk it up to living as an isolated Cuban up north. The second name is Jose Perez. He contacted me some time ago asking me for current professional information to help him update the records of the Cintas Fellows collection which he is curating at the Frost Art Museum. He seemed very supportive and cordial. I'm not sure what to make of his affiliation with this group. My own opinion on the embargo issue is evolving. In light of the decaying health of castro, a change in policy now or from this point on is not a good idea. That is not to say that something more should have been done up till now. The embargo alone has obviously not had the intended effect. Over the years, castro has found many ways to work around it, and he found other countries only too willing to help him. We simply did not want to spend political capital coming down on those countries, many of whom are partners with us on the war on terror. Do you keep an embargo that you know is not airtight? I suppose it's better than no embargo. But 47 years of castro is too long to wait. Something more should have been done. Something more should be done even now.
