Why CubaNostalgia?

Cubans are a very sentimental folk. Our diaspora has lasted almost a half-century and here we are still holding on to our traditions, religion, customs and music with dear life. Why? Well, like the Jews, we value what makes "us" us. I have been to CubaNostalgia many times before my adventures with BabaluBlog. Walking these conventions as a spectator (no pun intended) or as part of the Babalu team fills me with a immense sense of pride. Myriad displays celebrating life in Cuba B.c., merchants selling stuff that brings a little back of our lost age.

Andy Garcia named his movie The Lost City; in reality he should have named it The Lost Civilization. We created a vibrant culture in Cuba. The Spanish tried to suppress it and they failed; the Americans tried to add their elements to it and we wound up creating riffs on them; and castro has made his best effort to destroy the Cuban culture. In his zeal, he allowed the caretakers of memory to come here to the US and keep the flame of Cuban life alive.
