castro makes US diplomats live and work like ordinary Cubans
Via The Real Cuba and El Nuevo Herald, from Stratfor:
Cuba: Services Cut Off At U.S. Interest SectionJune 12, 2006 16 29 GM
The U.S. Interest Section office at Havana has had no electricity for the past week, the newspaper El Nuevo Herald reported June 12. The main building has remained powered by its own generators. The water supply reportedly has been cut off to the building housing consular services. The Cuban government has not issued any communication and has not received U.S. diplomatic officials. All communication has been made through Swiss Embassy officials, who were told electricity and water services were guaranteed. However, the U.S. Interest Section spokesman's office confirmed that the services had not yet been restored. According to the spokesman's office, a situation like this has not happened in at least six years, and it is unclear if Americans' travel to Cuba will be affected. The office is planning to issue an official statement later June 12 or the morning of June 13.
This is a very interesting bit of news. I wonder why the actual Miami Herald hasnt reported it?
Correction: It appears the Miami Herald did report on this here.

I think you were right when you posted the story, the English Herald hadn't posted it yet. The story definitely appeared in the Spanish edition first.

And why hasn't the U.S. government "retaliated in kind" against the Cuban Interest Section in Washington, DC?
Anyone care to venture a guess?

I guess the U.S. government hasn't retaliated because we are a civilized nation that upholds diplomatic laws. There is no need to stoop so low. What we need to do is send all of them packing, and close the U.S. interest section in Habana.

Closing the U.S. Interests Section in Havana would hurt, first and foremost, the Cuban people.
I don't think the U.S. government wants to do that... the Cubans are hurt enough by their own government already...

These are the thugs our government returns handfuls of Cuban refugees to while they talk about amnesty for 11 million illegal aliens. Where is that policy paper?

per the AP, they surmise that this is in retaliation for the billboards...
I think we should get a bunch of loud speakers and aim them at the Cuban Interest Section and blast out the most noisome music known to man (ala Noreiga and the terrorists) . . . force them to listen to Brittany Spears? or 24/7 mixes of death metal.....

Though I agree that closing the U.S. interest section in Habana would hurt the Cuban people, the United States shouldn't have to put up with Castro's little temper tantrums. Castro does this because he KNOWS the United States always takes whatever he dishes out. Well, NO MAS. That sociopath needs to be taugh a good lesson, He's cried wolf too many times, I'll say it's time we call his bluff.

I'm with you Firefly, what a joke it must be to him sticking it to us again and again and we do nothing. I'm sick of it.
