...on the spinning wheel ride.

Is that the latest Communist Pionero amusement park in Cuba? I did not see it in the book "Vamos a Cuba."

For something more bizarre than this, check out Oscar Corral's blog in the Miami Herald. His "Cuban Connection" is out of control and has morphed into the "Gay Connection."

This just makes me sad.
Sad to think of all the brilliant minds trapped.
Sad when I think of lost potential.
Sad to ponder what the people who built this could build given top-of-the-line tools and technology.
Sad to know that a whole nation is relegated to resolver.
Just plain sad.

While I do see the sad part of this picture, I tend to also agree with Ziva. Resolver. It's what makes Cubans what they are. The photo shows me that someone was inventive and resourceful enough to put together an amusement ride (albeit pathetic) for the kids. To us here in the U.S. this is sad and definitely sends a message but I bet there are some kids in Cuba who see it differently; at least until they get a little older.

Maybe it is really a lab centrifuge in one of kaSStro's vaunted "health care" facilities.

It kinda looks like modern art. It has a sort of order that is kind of pleasing to the eye.
But oh god, the pathetic materials. How very sad that castro has taken so much away from them. I bet little kids wearing flattened plastic milk bottle thongs get to swing on it.

How sad, but at the same time how ingenious and resourceful ... I could see the potential of the materials used ending up as part of a raft for a different type of ride ... a dangerous and courageous one ... to escape oppression!
