What's a "diverticulitis?"
Is that when a dictator dies and his remaining government keeps trying to cover up his death for weeks? As in, divert(iculitis) everyone's attention elsewhere?
Here's this week's fidel castro health rumor, via CalTech Girl:
"Cuban leader Fidel Castro is in serious condition after a series of three failed operations on his large intestine for diverticulitis complicated by infection, the Spanish newspaper El Pais reported on Monday.Castro, 80, suffered a serious infection that worsened to peritonitis, the newspaper's Tuesday edition said, citing two medical sources at the Madrid hospital where a surgeon who visited Castro in December works. The report was posted on the newspaper's Web site on Monday.
Castro's prognosis is "very serious" and he is being fed intravenously, the paper said."
Yawn. Will someone please wake me when the bastard is maggot food?
Seriously though, I dont think Im going far out on the proverbial limb here when I state that fidel castro is already dead. Were he alive, we would have already seen physical evidence of same and not this hearsay bullshit we're being strategically fed every few days.

He's a goner if he's got peritonitis...that when the intestine breaks or is perforated and sh*t enters the abdominal cavity...fatality rate is astronomic.

I have to agree with you, Val. I think we ar all being fed a bunch of disinformation from Cuba. They can't keep it up forever, though.

I wish they'd come out and say he's dead. It wouldn't change much, because Raul's in charge, but it would be great just to hear that he's dead. Maybe the Cuban government wants to keep that little bit of joy from us.

A dead fidel would be great news, but hearing all the rumors that he is near death with shit flowing freely all inside him is almost as good!!! I hope that many humiliating "fidel full of shit" cartoons can make it into Cuba!

nospinzone- You don't know what the hell you are talking about, you have no idea who did what, who was in prison. Why don't you get educated. Read Encinosas "Unvanquished" and here is a clue, you are rude and insulting to the hosts here so if you can't find your manners leave. I'm sick of your denigrating your fellow Cubans here, you don't know THEM!!! Hear that? YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!! SO SHUT THE FUCK UP.

i listen to shortwave just about every night.. who you gonna believe? the last couple of times i heard them mention castro/ cuba its a hodgepodge.. the way the VOA says it, the angel of death is hovering around fidel, drooling more and more every day.. RHC and Radio Venezuela say hes getting better.. btw, i heard fidelito (diaz balart) say his pops is on the mend and "si Dios quiere" will be back ruling the island in no time.. he also asked the reporters to stop the questions about his father.. this MIGHT have been in ecuador for the innauguration of the new prez, but im not sure.. carlos lage WAS in ecuador and he says "everything is fine, what? me worry?".. the BBC says both the cubans and the americans are trying to make the situation seem worse/ better than it really is, but point out that fidel's own silence and the way the cubans are handleing it make matters worse.. the french, with the little french i can understand say he is a hero of the left but is nonetheless a dictator who uses prisons, and no one knows where he is.. the germans sound like they are cussing, but i have no idea what they are saying, i just know they were talking about cuba..

Dead or dying no one seems to be saying anything nice about the tyrant. Once he is officially dead his former supporters will begin the process of demonizing and blaming Fidel for everything to help cover their own asses. From now on everyday will bring more and more condemnation of Fidel with nary a word of support. Why? Cause a dead tyrant ain't no good for nobody!

I usually avoid speculating whenever I hear the latest rumor about the maximum sob's imminent demise. This time, however, the bastard must be in some seriously bad shape, 'cause, otherwise, they would have already staged a public showing somewhere just to keep the chatter down, like the soviets used to do when Brezhnev started to go downhill. One possible explanation of why we haven't seen him for so long and why not even his closest foreign buddies are allowed to see him is that he is not presentable, not even with makeup. Does this mean that he's near death? I don't know. But it sure looks like he's been in deep doo-doo for a while (pun intended).

of course fidelito jr. is going to say he is doing better. He as well as others in the dictators regime have to be shaking in their boots right now. Not only do they risk losing their elite status, but they also have seen and heard of the hangings in Iraq and those events are not too far from Cuba should the government get weak.I don't personally think anything will change when fidel is officially dead as was mentioned before raul is in charge, but it does give more hope.

Castro is dying the death which I would not wish on a dog, but which I am glad that God has seen fit to visit on him.

fidelito is in Chile and that's where he answered reporters' questions and told them his father was getting better.
On the otherhand the Cuban embasador to Dominican Republic told the reporters there that fidel is seriously ill and he doubts he'll be returning to power..
I understand Cuba spent 80 million dollars on some construction project in Chile for the family or that is at least what I understood last night on a Spanish TV station.

I’m new to posting in this blog, but I come here for news and commentaries on a daily basis. While I was living in Cuba (most of my life) I realized that the community of Cubans exiles has the power to influence the Cuban government decisions if the voices here are loud enough. I don’ think we play that card the way we should. I think we need be more aggressive and united in asking the Cuban government to explain what’s wrong with the beast. Miguel-O-Matic gave me an idea: we should start a web campaign with the “Show us Fidel” slogan. We need to force the Cuban government’s move.

I like JorgeG's idea. Instead of "Where's Waldo" we can have a "Where's fidel" contest. Very cool!

Dear Val;
I've been a nurse for 26 years. Let's talk about diverticulitis.
Diverticulitis is an inflamation of the small intestine, and a chronic condition -- meaning it has been going on most likely for years. My grandmother had this condition all of her adult life. The "end result" (please pardon the pun) is that you end up having extremely painful bowel movements every time you go number two. The symptoms of this disease involve extreme pain, cramping, uncontrollable gas, and BMs that are composed of largely blood and pieces of your own flesh from the intestines.
So while Castro has been a pain in the ass for Cuba for years, he's been a pain in his own ass for even longer. This also explains why he looks so angry much of the time and never smiles.
Peritonitis is a common complication of diverticulitis in older people. At some point he stopped having BMs of small pieces of his intestines and crapped a large enough piece to perforate through to his abdominal cavity, and his feces (caca) caused a small, gradual infection of his peritoneal lining of his abdomen. If the pain and cramping of diverticulitis is bad, the pain of peritonitis is a whole quantum leap forward from there. If you've ever seen an old western where the sidekick was "gut-shot," he had peritonitis and was dying horribly and slowly. It was not uncommon to give such a person a pistol to shoot themselves and put themselves out of their misery.
In many ways this is a far worse fate than cancer, where you lose your faculties towards the end. Peritonitis keeps you lucid and in excruciating pain right up to the end. In some cases you don't actually die of the infection, but or starvation, as the peritoneal lining is what absorbs nutrients from the intestines into the bloodstream.
So any way you look at it, castro is dying painfully, horribly, and slowly. Truly there is justice in the universe. And if you believe in God as I do, it only gets better when he soon burns in hell slowly. Die, bastard, die.

Diverticulitis is an inflammation or an infection in the intestines where they have a pouch . Generally comes from not eating enough fiber. Americans with their greasy, low fiber diets are especially prone to this disease.
