Coincidence?
Or following the playbook?
Is Hugo Chavez dead?
That's the Google search term that abounds in my referrer logs this morning from all over the world. There's nothing from any major news sources on this. Nothing at Drudge. Nothing from our Venezuelan blogging brethren.
I dont know why people from New Dehli and Spain and Delaware and many other locations are looking for information on the death of Hugo Chavez, perhaps a rumor is circuating somewhere. Perhaps the guy croaked or perhaps it's a death rumor ala fidel castro.
Time well tell.

on the chavez story, he was in brasil this week for a mercosur summit.. heres what i got: 1) brasilain press, in particular a political "pundit" who gives his "take" on the national news broadcast made the following comments on minime's comments at the mercosur summit: while i'm all for brasil and the latin american nations soverignty and reducing dependence on the united states, chavez is a psyhcopath and too far to the left, reducing liberties and starting to slide down a slippery slope from which there may be no return (end of the tv comments).. they are discussing ideas to make a currency similar to the euro, and trying to reduce the amount of trade amongst themselves using the american dollar.. my belief is that there is a tug o war going on as to which brand of the left south america will follow, bolivia/ venezuela, or brasil, which so far has been "big business" friendly under lula, much more than anyone expected.. i remember radio mambi, and maybe similar comments were made here, that once lula was in office brasil would go the way of cuba.. nothing even close has happened.. 2)radio venezuela (again on shortwave) played a typical "fire and brimstone" chavez speech last night.. dont know if it was live or memorex.. i hope my comments arent misconstrued, but chavez' speeches, albeit dangerous and frightening are mesmerizing and entertaining, much like you see leni riefenstahl films of hitler and see how he commanded the attention of the crowds and they looked on in awe.. its easy to see how they sell their snake oil to the masses.. i wonder if there is some school or special class they take in public speaking..

Chávez's timely death would be absolute and irrefutable proof of the existence of God, as well as definitive proof that Venezuelans are God's new chosen people (Cubans certainly aren't).

I suppose he has to die sometime. Maybe they're just trying to get out in front of the story.

I read on Venezuela News and Views that Uribe trashed Morales (I think Chavez was there, too). I wonder how these rumors get started: Chavez dead?

Former Florida Senator George A. Smathers died Saturday at age 93. He was a great friend of the Cuban people and an inveterate enemy of the Castro regime, one of the last legendary Cold-Warriors.

My wife got an email today with the title: Hugo Chavez dead from 'Golden P. Rita'. It contained the virus Attachment [2.2] Video.exe, virus infected: Troj/Dorf-Fam.
Server deleted the virus so I do not know what it was about.

This may be a stretch, but I was reading El Pais this morning and apparently there is a computer virus going around through e-mail with subject lines being "Fidel Castro is dead," "Hugo Chavez is dead," or Saddam Hussein is alive." I've posted the link below, in Spanish. Maybe that's an explanation.

Chavez death rumors happen only because everyone wants him dead. I hope they wear on and wear down the thug till he resigns, one step ahead of the meathook. He can move to the Comoros and not be heard from again.
